Job Purpose
The Business Development Manager will lead the strategic growth of the B2B insurance portfolio by developing and executing a targeted business development strategy focused on acquiring and growing corporate and enterprise-level clients. This role will build and lead a high-performing team, drive cross-sell and up-sell opportunities across the group, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver tailored insurance solutions to corporate clients. Additionally, the role will support training, onboarding, and mentoring initiatives to ensure capability development and consistent sales performance across the wider business.
Our insurance business unit in Ireland is headquartered in Dundalk, however, we will consider a position in one of our other ROI offices (e.g. Galway).
- Monday to Thursday: 8:30am – 5:00pm
- Friday: 8:30am – 4:30pm
Your responsibilities day to day will be…
Strategic Growth & Business Development
- Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy to acquire larger B2B insurance clients.
- Identify and nurture new business opportunities, including those new to the group and through cross-sell/up-sell across the wider business units.
- Build strong relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders within target businesses.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., existing sales teams / management, marketing, operations) to create tailored insurance solutions that meet client needs.
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity to adjust strategies accordingly.
Team Leadership & Development
- Build and lead a high-performing B2B / Enterprise / Corporate team with the view of creating a strategy to upsell insurance products to existing Radius clients.
- Set clear objectives and KPIs for the team, team members and monitor progress. Plus work collaboratively in the development of your own KPIs.
- Inspire and mentor team members to achieve individual and team targets.
- Facilitate collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the team and across the wider group.
Training & Onboarding
- Support the development and delivery of training programmes for new team members both in your department and in already established teams, particularly the existing sales team servicing SME and consumer clients.
- Ensure consistent onboarding processes and early productivity among new hires.
- Act as a subject matter expert, providing coaching and support as needed.
- Possible involvement as either a mentor or supervisor of Insurance Apprentices.
What do we expect of you?
- Industry Expertise: CIP qualified is preferred or working towards this qualification; APA at a minimum. Broad General Insurance product knowledge including, at a minimum; fleet, property & liabilities is also vital to the success of this role.
- Proven B2B Business Development Expertise: A strong background in identifying, winning, and growing relationships with corporate or enterprise-level clients, ideally within the insurance or professional services sector.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to design and execute a clear business development strategy, using insight and data to shape direction and adapt to market trends and competitor activity.
- Relationship-Building Skills: Confidence and credibility in engaging with senior decision-makers, both externally with clients and internally across functions.
- Leadership Ability: Experience in building, managing, and motivating high-performing teams, with a commitment to setting clear objectives and supporting individual development.
- Collaborative Mindset: A team player who works well cross-functionally, aligning sales activity with marketing, operations, and senior leadership to deliver tailored client solutions.
- Coaching & Mentoring Skills: A natural leader who enjoys developing others, supporting onboarding and training processes, and contributing to a culture of continuous learning.
- Results Orientation: Comfortable working to targets, measuring performance through KPIs, and driving accountability within their team.
- Strong Communication & Presentation Skills: Capable of clearly articulating value propositions to different audiences and representing the business with professionalism and authority.
- Adaptability & Initiative: Proactive in identifying opportunities for growth and improvement, with the agility to pivot when needed in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable: Experience mentoring apprentices or junior team members and familiarity with onboarding/training practices in sales environments.
Qualifications
Preferred: CIP (MDI / ACII)
Essential: APA Commercial General Insurance
Additional Information
