Job Purpose
We are seeking a Digital Production Journalist to support our ongoing news coverage and bring a fresh, dynamic perspective to our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of the interests and habits of our audience, and a talent for identifying and creating stories that resonate with this demographic.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce original digital content, including news articles based on: Interviews, freedom of Information (FOI) requests, research, source development
- Work to a rotating seven-day roster, including weekends and public holidays as required.
- Manage and edit incoming wire feeds and other syndicated content.
- Edit copy to ensure clarity, accuracy, and alignment with the site's fast, factual and free editorial ethos.
- Source and select appropriate images to accompany digital content.
- Regularly update the website's social media channels with engaging, timely content.
- Respond to phone calls and email queries from the public in a professional and efficient manner.
- Handle sensitive material, particularly court-related stories, with care and legal awareness.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in digital news journalism, with a demonstrated ability to write, edit, and enhance breaking news stories.
- Strong news judgment and a keen awareness of what drives engagement among audiences.
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and emerging technologies used in digital journalism.
- Flexibility and adaptability to contribute across multiple content formats and platforms.
- A proactive, collaborative mindset and willingness to work as part of a team.
