As an Electrical Instrumentation Apprentice your responsibilities will include but are not limited to actively engage with your appointed mentor to ensure they get the relevant onsite experience to facilitate their training, complete assessments with the assigned mentor.
During this Electrical Instrumentation Apprenticeship, you will alternate between on-the-job training with your employer (phases 1, 3, 5, and 7) at various sites across Ireland, and off-the-job training (phases 2, 4, and 6) in a SOLAS training facility in Ireland. Off-the-job phases may take place at any SOLAS location nationwide.
As part of this apprenticeship, you will gain experience in some of the following industries: Semi-Conductor, Pharmaceutical, Medical Devices and the Sligo Laboratory. Working as an electrical instrumentation craftsperson, you will be involved in the installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of various wiring systems and services. our work will include the maintenance and repair of all instruments used in the measurement and control of process variables.
On completion of this apprenticeship, you will become a fully qualified instrumentation craftsperson, with a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Electrical Instrumentation.
Responsibilities:
- Apply mathematical principles to solve technical and scientific challenges.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot fire alarms, intruder alarms, lightning protection, and metering systems.
- Read and interpret electrical and electronic schematics, technical drawings, and diagrams.
- Safely use a wide range of specialized hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
- Install and connect different types of wiring and cabling systems.
- Work with machines, processes, and control systems.
- Diagnose and analyse faults in electrical and instrumentation systems.
Requirements:
- Strong understanding of Mathematics.
- A background in science (preferred).
- Flexibility to relocate to different site locations during the apprenticeship.
- Eagerness and willingness to learn.
- Good communication skills
- A positive and proactive attitude.
- Strong awareness of Health and Safety practices.
- Ability to think critically and solve problems.
Breakdown of Apprenticeship Phases:
On-The-Job with Employer:
- Phase 1 – Minimum 12 months.
- Phase 3 – Minimum 6 months.
- Phase 5 – Minimum 6 months.
- Phase 7 – Minimum 3 months.
Off-The-Job in Training Facility:
- Phase 2 – 22 weeks.
- Phase 4 – 10 weeks.
- Phase 6 – 10 weeks.
Education / Licenses / Certifications:
- Minimum a pass grade in all subjects in the Leaving Certificate (or equivalent).
- Proof of education, licenses, and certifications will be required where applicable.
