Family Support Worker -Mid West Simon Community Limerick

Job Title: Family support worker – Family Hub

Reports to: Service Lead

Location: Twin Oaks, Family Hub, Dublin Road, Limerick

Contract: 30 hrs per week, Monday to Friday

Salary Details: Dependent on experience

Job Purpose:

To work as part of a staff team in Mid-West Simon, Family Hub ensuring that services offered by the organisation operate effectively and consistently to best practice standards.

To help ensure Mid West Simon Community provides high-quality, effective housing support services to individuals.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Family Support Worker post will

1. Contribute to the continuity of service provision in the service and provide support to clients.

2. Provide practical parenting support and advice on managing routines, boundaries, child behaviour, and emotional wellbeing.

3. Promote healthy parent-child relationships and attachment, using evidence-informed approaches (e.g., Triple P, Solihull Approach).

4. Identify and respond to child development concerns, liaising with early years services, schools, and health visitors as needed.

5. Help parents understand developmental milestones and how to support learning through play, nutrition, and routine.

6. Plan and deliver scheduled sessions for parents focused on Parenting strategies, Healthy routines, nutrition, and self-care.

7. Organise structured child play sessions and family activities that promote development and bonding.

8. Assist families in accessing health, education, benefits, employment, and childcare services.

9. Complete clear, concise case management records as required and participate in handovers, multi-agency meetings, and contribute to reviews as required.

10. Liaise with Keyworkers to ensure continuity of support.

11. Encourage and empower individuals to reach their full potential.

12. Work in line with Children first: National guidance for the protection and welfare of children 2017.

13. Ensure that a culturally sensitive approach to support is maintained.

14. Liaise with relevant agencies when appropriate.

15. To ensure that individuals are familiar with and are complying with LA Codes of Conduct.

16. To maintain good relationships with neighbours and relevant community groups.

17. Coordinate activity and social programmes.

18. To be vigilant in relation to health and safety and welfare risks in the workplace and bring concerns to the attention of the team leaders.

19. Maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the service in general common areas.

20. Ensure the Health, Safety and Welfare of clients is always prioritised.

21. It is a requirement of the role, that all staff attend team meetings.

Administration

§ To maintain all recording systems as outlined by National Quality Standards Framework.

§ To ensure that all communication and administrative policies and procedures are followed.

§ To prepare reports as required.

Person Specification:

Essential

Education

Experience of record keeping and report writing.

Experience, Attributes, Skills, Abilities and Knowledge

§ Children First Training.

§ In-depth understanding in the area of family homelessness.

§ Knowledge of the specialist services which can address these needs.

§ Possess strong advocacy skills in support of Individuals accessing services relevant to their needs.

§ The desire to support homeless families to develop their own resources and make positive changes.

§ Basic understanding of how to provide advice and case-work services to families.

§ Ability to provide, manage and evaluate support plans.

§ Experience supporting vulnerable families and children, preferably in a housing, early years, or social care setting.

§ Knowledge of child development, safeguarding, and early intervention principles.

§ Experience facilitating group sessions with parents or children.

§ Ability to plan and deliver practical, strengths-based support to families with complex needs.

§ Ability to manage challenging behaviour, set clear boundaries, and remain calm and effective under pressure.

§ Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in a changing environment where sound judgement is required.

§ Be self-motivated, able to motivate, inspire and empower others.

§ Ability to work as part of a team.

§ Knowledge of Health and Safety in the workplace.

§ Have an understanding of the importance of confidentiality in relation to work.

§ Be computer literate with a sound knowledge of Word, Excel, Email and PASS.

§ Share in and work with the values and ethos of Mid West Simon Community.

§ Ability to make efficient use of time and manage workload.

§ Recognises the need to be flexible.

§ Possessing a valid and full clean driver’s licence is desirable.

§ Candidate should have a clear understanding of client lead approaches.

§ Candidate should have a clear understanding of Trauma Informed Care Principles.
