JOB PURPOSE:

The Finishing manager will be fundamental in ensuring; the smooth running of the Finishing department and, the co-ordination of resources are operationally managed to ensure that orders flow efficiently through the Finishing Department; schedule and bottleneck management requirements are fully planned and met, Operational Excellence objectives and performance levels defined are achieved, and staffing requirements are continually monitored to ensure effective staff deployment whilst facilitating continuous improvement projects within the combined finishing function.


In this combined finishing function, it is essential that the Finishing Manager can demonstrate strategic understanding and draft and implement new ideas whilst displaying strong people management skills.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Departmental Management

  • Ensure that schedule adherence, product quality, waste reduction and production efficiency are treated as priorities for the department.
  • Ensure that job related departmental bottlenecks are proactively identified and effectively managed.
  • Ensure that Operational Excellence improvement plans are effectively developed and executed.
  • Work closely with other departments, such as Planning, Engineering, Cut and Crease and the Warehouse, to ensure effective internal customer-supplier relationships and team working.
  • Ensure that all Finishing staff are effectively utilised.
  • Ensure that the current inbuilt flexibility of staff is fully utilised.
  • Ensure that departmental personnel can operate across a wide range of activities within the department.
  • Ensure that planned equipment maintenance is carried out effectively, in liaison with the Maintenance Department
  • Carry out monthly departmental briefings.
  • Complete on-site customer visits and clinics as required, this may involve travel.


Training

  • Ensure that all Finishing Department personnel training needs are regularly reviewed, training needs identified and training plans implemented
  • Ensure that all necessary departmental Standard Operating Procedures are developed with employees, and fully implemented
  • Facilitate or provide relevant training sessions in essential areas such as 5S, problem solving techniques, OE, TPM, cross-training etc
  • Training departmental staff on all Standard Operating Procedures


Performance Management

  • Provide effective and proactive leadership to all departmental personnel.
  • Ensure that relevant departmental KPI’s are identified in conjunction with Company requirements.
  • Provide an effective contribution to meeting the needs of companywide continuous improvement/Operational Excellence programme.
  • Ensure records are maintained that monitor and record departmental performance improvements.
  • Ensure the performance of departmental personnel is managed and effective feedback on performance is communicated.
  • Develop and deliver a monthly departmental report


Health & Safety

  • To conduct risk assessments on an ongoing basis
  • To ensure full participation and leadership within the SES system
  • To ensure all requirements of ISO and Smurfit Westrock SES are adhered to
  • To provide active improvement and leadership on environmental improvements
  • Ensure that all Finishing Department work is carried out safely and effectively


Environmental/Energy

  • Ensure the Finishing Department makes a proactive and effective contribution to the Company Asset Care and Energy Efficiency programmes


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong experience in people management/strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience in working to demanding schedule patterns
  • Ability to identify and drive change
  • Experience in the use of management techniques e.g. 5S, TPM, six sigma, continuous improvement techniques, project management, etc.
  • Good verbal and written presentation/communication skills
