The Role:
Ballymaloe House Hotel is seeking a skilled and motivated Gardener to join our team and maintain the hotel’s gardens, greenhouse and vegetable plots to the highest standards. This role is essential in supporting our farm-to-fork philosophy by cultivating fresh herbs, fruits and vegetables used directly in our Kitchen. The ideal candidate will have a passion for plants and sustainable gardening.
Key Responsibilities
- Grow and maintain a wide variety of flowers, herbs, vegetables, fruits and edible plants
- Manage and care for the hotel’s raised beds, greenhouses, vegetable plots and garden areas
- Plant, cultivate, and harvest herbs, vegetables, fruits and edible flowers
- Grow flowers for use in hotel guest rooms, dining spaces and public areas
- Ensure proper irrigation, soil health, composting and organic gardening practices
- Monitor plant health and manage pest prevention using natural methods
- Plan and implement seasonal planting and flower rotation schedules
- Keep records of plantings, harvests and seed stock for future planning
- Attend training when required and adhere to all Health & Safety procedures
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in gardening, landscaping or groundskeeping (hospitality or organic farming experience preferred)
- Experience with greenhouse management and vegetable cultivation
- Knowledge of plant care, soil types and eco-friendly gardening practices
- A passion for sustainability and the farm-to-fork philosophy
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Be physically fit and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions
