The Opportunity
The Health and Safety Assistant Manager will provide assistance and support to the Health and Safety Manager in carrying out any necessary health and safety activities during the delivery of BusConnects Dublin Core Bus Corridors Infrastructure Works (CBCIW). The Health and Safety Assistant Manager will act as a source of expert technical advice, providing assurance, ensuring compliance, and carrying out due diligence on matters relating to health and safety to ensure that CBCIW is delivered safely. The role holder will lead by example and serve as a role model in ensuring the highest standards of health and safety are adopted across CBCIW.
As a Health & Safety Assistant Manager at Arup, you will:
- Advice clients in relation to construction and other applicable health and safety legislation.
- Carry out health and safety audits/inspections and reviews of construction sites, places of work and client systems.
- Prepare Safety Statements.
- Conduct and documenting risk assessments.

We're looking for someone who is passionate about Health and Safety. These are the essential skills and qualifications for the position:
Minimum 5+ years’ experience leading and embedding health and safety practices and a proven track record of carrying out health and safety activities in high value road and / or infrastructure projects or projects of a similar scale and complexity to CBCIW.
Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related subject (or equivalent).
A 3rd level Health and Safety qualification.
We also value:
Experience working with Irish Government Regulations governing construction health and safety including the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013
Undertaking the roles of Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) and /or Project Supervisor Construction Stage (PSCS) or equivalent roles in other jurisdictions.
Experience working with Safety Management Systems such as Safe T Cert, OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001.
Driving best practice in technical activities, processes, policies and standards
In-depth understanding of the design and delivery requirements of technically complex projects in the architectural, engineering or construction sectors
Proven track record of developing health, safety and welfare strategies
Working within safety critical and regulated environments, preferably within live, urban environments
Dealing with a range of stakeholders at all levels across the organisation influencing the improvement of processes and providing guidance to support project delivery and reporting.
Skills
It is desirable for the Health and Safety Assistant Manager to possess the following skills:
Fully proficient in the use of MS Office applications and other project tools and methodologies;
Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills;
Ability to govern and drive outcomes to ensure high quality service delivery;
Ability to deal with and resolve unforeseen risks and issues;
Ability to step back from the detail and take a holistic overview;
Ability to prioritise effectively, meet deadlines and deliver consistent service;
High level of attention to detail;
Ability to manage client expectations and deliver within agreed parameters; and
Ability to work in a challenging environment both on their own initiative and as part of a team.
Practicing / Training / Compliance Certification
NEBOSH or equivalent is desirable.
Safepass accreditation is desirable.
Professional Memberships
Membership of an engineering, construction or health and safety organisation (e.g., Engineers Ireland, IOSH) is desirable.
