About the role
As a Health and Safety Manager at our Bottling Operations site, your role is to foster a culture where safety is at the heart of everything we do. Reporting directly to the Site Leader, the Health & Safety Manager will lead a team of 3 H&S Specialists, providing daily leadership, structure, and guidance in a fast-paced, busy environment. As H&S Manager, you will demonstrate proactive and visible leadership and ensure activities are supported by strong tools, metrics, and ongoing team development efforts. There will be a strong focus on cultural buy-in and leadership to ensure operational excellence and safety compliance remains a top priority.
What’s involved?
- Lead by example to build and embed a positive, proactive safety culture a best-in-class safety culture—mentoring teams, promoting safe behaviours, and driving performance, ensuring full compliance with health & safety and environmental standards.
- Act as a visible and proactive leader to the site and your team, offering expert guidance and mentoring across different teams across the site.
- Manage compliance within COMAH regulations and oversee implementation of the Major Accident Prevention Policy (MAPP).
- Maintain and regularly test the Business Continuity Plan (BCP) to ensure site readiness.
- Meet and exceed key safety performance indicators, measured through TRIFR (total recordable, incident frequency ratio).
- Lead thorough investigations into any accidents or incidents, ensuring learnings are captured, ensuring root causes are addressed and corrective actions implemented.
- Lead and support the development of Safe Systems of Work, regularly auditing and updating procedures as needed. Conduct regular audits to ensure Safe Systems of Work are fully implemented and maintained.
- Develop and nurture collaborative relationships with both internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Play an active role as part of the site leadership team, contributing to strategic decisions and supporting overall site performance.
- Take the lead on creating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Risk Assessments (RAs), ensuring everyone on site is trained and compliant ensuring all staff and contractors are fully trained.
- Lead the Health & Safety Culture Program to consistently achieve top-tier audit scores.
- Engage with and contribute to global Health & Safety initiatives, sharing best practices and aligning with corporate goals.
Your background
- 6–8 years’ experience in Health & Safety leadership, ideally on a mid to top-tier COMAH site.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire high-performing teams, with experience as part of a leadership group.
- A practical, approachable problem-solver who builds trust and gets things done.
- Strong people management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach and influence at all levels.
- Excellent communicator with confidence in leading discussions with both internal teams and external regulators.
- Skilled in negotiation and comfortable representing the site in audits and regulatory meetings.
- A technical degree (e.g., BSc or BEng), plus a postgraduate qualification in Occupational Health & Safety.
- Membership of a recognised professional body such as NISO or IOSH.
- Certified auditor in Health & Safety, Environmental, or Quality systems.
- Solid experience with Safe Systems of Work and Risk Assessments.
- Strong technical understanding of chemical/process safety, including HAZOP, ATEX, Seveso regulations, and emergency planning.
- Understanding of matrix organisations and ability to work through different reporting structures.
