We are currently seeking a Full-Time Retail Horticulturist to join our Plant Area Team.
The Retail Horticulturist will be part of our Horticultural Team, working alongside our knowledgable horticulturists helping with sales and maintain the high level of customer service and advice of Johnstown Garden Centre.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- To provide a professional, friendly and efficient service to the Garden Centre's customers, understanding their needs and requirements, working to exceed these wherever possible.
- To assist in proactively driving sales and service across the store through a strong sales team with excellent product knowledge and customer service.
- To provide a point of contact for customer enquiries/complaints, dealing with these through a successful outcome and maintaining customer satisfaction.
- To demonstrate a positive, enthusiastic, committed and flexible attitude towards customers and other team members, recognising the importance and benefits of effective team working.
- Ability to assist with tasks and the day to day running of the Garden Centre.
- Keep up to date with current product knowledge and consumer trends.
- Ensure all relevant POS, plant labelling and displays are correct and up to date.
- Assist management by overseeing goods inward, stock control and stock taking, ensuring they are carried out in line with company policies.
- Follow Health and Safety protocols within the business.

- Will be able to demonstrate a love of gardening and a good general knowledge of gardening and plants.
- Will be a people person, be extremely customer focused and results driven.
- Must be able to build and maintain customer relationships, delivering an excellent customer experience.
- Will have excellent communication, planning and organisation skills.
- Will be self-motivated yet be a team player.
- Be flexible and adaptable to a changing retail environment.
- Be able to confidently communicate with the customers
- Have a positive a conscientious, flexible and ‘can do’ working style.
Experience and Qualifications:
- A minimum qualification of Level 5 Certificate in Horticulture.
- Experience in horticultural retail, or general retail is not essential, but candidates with suitable experience will be at an advantage. Those without experience in retail must be able to convince us that their past employment/experience has provided them with skills that they can transfer to a busy horticultural retail environment.
- A successful candidate will be one who is willing to continue learning and expand their knowledge of horticulture so as to assist in proactively driving sales and providing excellent product knowledge and service to our customers.

Hours of Work:
The successful candidate must be available to work any 5 out of 7 days on a rotating roster system in place, to include weekends and bank holidays.
Our opening hours are Monday to Saturday 9:00am to 6:00pm, Sunday & Bank Holidays 10:00am to 6:00pm.
