5 Mile Concepts is seeking a results-oriented and experienced Managing Director to lead our growing hospitality and coffee businesses, Fork & Wheel Restaurant and 5 Mile Coffee. The Role:
As Managing Director, you will be responsible for the overall strategic and operational leadership of 5 Mile Concepts. You will oversee all departments and locations, ensuring financial success, exceptional customer experience, and operational excellence across both our restaurant and coffee divisions. This role reports directly to the CEO/Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement the company’s strategic plan, identify new business opportunities, and report regularly to the Board/CEO on performance, risks, and opportunities. You will lead and inspire a high-performance leadership team.
- Operations Management: Drive continuous improvement and innovation in product development, menu innovation, and operational processes for both Fork & Wheel and 5 Mile Coffee (roastery and retail). You will oversee daily site operations through your senior team and maintain the highest standards in food and beverage quality, safety, cleanliness, and guest experience.
- Commercial & Financial Performance: Own full P&L responsibility, create and manage annual budgets and forecasts, and implement robust cost control measures to maximize profitability. You will collaborate with the Finance Team to ensure compliance with financial obligations.
- Sales & Marketing Oversight: Drive revenue through effective sales strategies, promotions, and campaigns, and collaborate with the marketing team to build brand awareness and customer engagement. You will identify growth opportunities across various sales channels and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
- Coffee Production Oversight: Directly oversee the Production Manager at 5 Mile Coffee, ensuring performance against KPIs, setting standards for coffee quality, and monitoring sourcing, roasting, and distribution. You will also lead the expansion of the coffee business into new markets.
- Compliance & Governance: Ensure all health & safety, food safety, and employment practices meet regulatory requirements, review and enforce company SOPs, and manage the company’s risk profile.
- Brand & Community Ambassadorship: Act as a brand ambassador for both Fork & Wheel and 5 Mile Coffee, collaborating with local businesses and community groups to promote local enterprise and enhance brand visibility.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ senior leadership experience, ideally within the foodservice, hospitality, or FMCG sectors.
- Proven track record of business development and P&L ownership.
- Operational knowledge of both restaurant and coffee production environments.
- Strong leadership, communication, and commercial acumen.
- Understanding of Irish employment and food safety regulations.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams, including marketing, operations, and production.
Desirable Skills & Competencies:
- Experience in scaling premium food or beverage brands.
- Strong local market knowledge (Cork and Ireland-wide).
- HACCP certification.
- Roasting training experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, EPOS systems, and business analytics tools.
