The Role
We are seeking a Physiotherapist Assistant to join the Physiotherapy team. The role is responsible for the provision of quality service in line with standards of Physiotherapy practice. As a key member of the frontline team, the Physiotherapy Assistant assists in the delivery of individualised patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered Physiotherapist. The role assists in the smooth running of the department and the provision of quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Under the general direction and control of the Physiotherapy Services Manager, the Physiotherapy Assistant will be responsible for the following:
Assist the Physiotherapist in completing assessments and treatments as requested under the direction of the Physiotherapist. This includes one to one interventions, doubles and classes in and out patients.
Follow instructions, carry out tasks and adhere to safety procedures, as directed by the Physiotherapist, in line with the department and hospital policies.
Only carry out techniques / programmes approved by the Physiotherapist and seek the assistance of the Physiotherapist in changing any aspect of the patient's treatment or in discounting treatment.
Liaise with the Physiotherapist, regarding patient's progress and in organising group activities. To observe patient's behavior, response and ability and report back to the Physiotherapist.
Attend Physiotherapy and other departments for training / observation on initial appointment and at intervals as directed by the Physiotherapy Manager. Attend and participate in meetings and in-service when recommended.
Assist with moving and handling of patients
Assist patients with toileting and transfers, dressing /undressing if required
Transfer and accompany or direct patients to and from treatment
Run various group activities as directed by the Physiotherapist
Prepare the patients and environment for treatment as directed by the Physiotherapists
Assist in maintaining order, cleanliness and tidiness of treatment areas and equipment in accordance with hospital infection control and department guidelines
Maintain equipment in a clean and safe condition, e.g. hot / cold packs etc. and bring to and from treatment areas
Assist in stocking and maintaining supplies as directed by the Physiotherapist
To comply with department protocols regarding documentation and recording statistical data
To assist where necessary certain administrative tasks as designated by the Physiotherapist, including answering phone calls, scheduling patients, invoicing and finance, filing etc.

Essential requirements for the ideal candidate:
FETAC Level 5 Healthcare/Physiotherapist Assistant
Previous experience in a similar environment
