A Day in the Life
• Responsible for development, validation and implementation of package systems and processes for sterile medical devices including components, assemblies, and labels.• Will participate on cross-functional, cross-site project team focusing on designing and implementation of new packaging for new products within Cardiovascular
• Utilize knowledge of FDA and ISO requirements related to packaging and labeling, ensuring robust package validation and qualification
• Draft technical documentation including package testing protocols and validation associated with the qualification and release of package designs
• Develop plans to establish proof of shelf life, accelerated and real time.
• Coordinate projects and deadlines working with other package engineers and other functions to ensure deliverables are met on time.
• Serve actively in the identification of suppliers, testing and approving materials, including liaison with suppliers.

A Day in The Life Of:
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Identifies opportunities to create significant end user, patient and business value through sterile package designs.
- Leads voice of customer activities, including on-site interviews, focus groups and industry events, to identify packaging functionality that assist medical teams in the performance of a therapy.
- Identifies designs and processes that optimize manufacturability and barrier performance while lowering cost and risk.
- Collects and validates input from all sources, then conceptualizes package designs and methods that incorporate the improvements.
- Assists in supplier selection, prototyping, and feasibility studies.
- Provides technical guidance to packaging engineering team members including root cause failure analysis, testing methods, material selection, design and solid modeling assistance, prototyping and manufacturing defect resolution.
- Provides project management support to packaging engineering team members including relationship building with internal cross functional teams, vendor selection, use of design and manufacturing methodologies, risk analysis and mitigation plan, plus over project oversight.
- Lead packaging development programs as required.
- Leads the improvement and optimization of packaging group operating practices with focus on best practices, stakeholder value, quality, and cost effectiveness.
- Utilize knowledge of FDA, ISO, and EN requirements related to packaging and labeling.
Key Skills & Experience
- Level 8 Degree and minimum 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a BS BioMechanical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Packaging or related engineering field
- Medical device sterile packaging, R&D, manufacturing or field technical support experience
- 2-3 years use of mechanical design (SolidWorks, PTC or other), statistical analysis (MatLab, MiniTab or other)
- Knowledgeable in ISO, ASTM, ISTA standards and test methods related to packaging
- Experience with terminally sterilized package design, materials, sealing methods, operating room procedures and sterilization methods.
- Solid proficiency in MS applications
- Familiarity with FDA and EU quality assurance requirements for design and manufacturing
- Ability to travel up to 15%, both domestic and international
- Basic understanding of circulatory, venous, and heart related disease states and therapies
