About the Faculty
The Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery is a busy, interdisciplinary research-oriented environment, with over 20 staff, including administrative, faculty and research staff. It currently has over 10 active research grants, including the NIHR funded Weather project in collaboration with 4 international universities, the UKRI Net Zero hub project along with coordination and hosting of 12 PhD projects.
The objective of this post is to provide high level research management support, including financial support and regulatory advice in consultation with the RCSI financial and legal teams, to ongoing research in the FNM, and to further the development of research in the FNM.
The successful candidate will provide a high-level function in the ongoing development, maintenance and completion of top-end research projects.
Specifically, the duties of the post are:
  • Working with Principal Investigators and other members of the FNM in the development of national and international grant applications.
  • Working with Principal Investigators and other members of the FNM in the timely management of existing grants, including management of legal agreements, budget management and preparation of annual and end-of grant reports to funding agencies.
  • Working with Principal Investigators, liaising with funding bodies in relation to existing grants and in preparation of new grant applications.
  • Building capacity within the FNM in grant management including, for example, training of administrative staff in management of forms relating to research staff, and training of post- doctoral researchers in budget development and day-to-day budget management.
  • Identifying potential research opportunities from relevant and potentially novel sources to disseminate to the FNM.
  • Explore the possibility of developing new industry research partnerships for the FNM in consultation with the Office of Research and Innovation (ORI).
  • Facilitate development of research ideas, grant applications and ongoing research management activities, including through a process of delegation with relevant training provided, where appropriate.
  • Overseeing decision making for ensuring data quality, data storage, data protection, and ensuring that relevant audit trails are maintained.
  • In consultation with PIs, be the point of contact in the FNM for HRB, EU, EI and all other major funding bodies.
  • Complying with statutory legislation, RCSI and department rules and requirements in staff welfare and safety.
  • Representing the best interests of RCSI/FNM at all times.
  • Undergoing programmes of training and development as may be required from time to time.
  • Performing such other duties as may be requested from time to time.
Qualifications:
  • Masters level healthcare, management or financial qualification with a strong project management component.
Knowledge & Experience – (Essential):
  • Experience of managing research project grant applications
  • Experience of research project budgetary and financial management
  • Self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills
  • An effective and clear communication style appropriate to audience and situation
  • Strong evidence of ability to meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to develop and implement project plans with agreed timelines
  • Experience in liaising with key project stakeholders and ensuring they are fully informed of project progress through presentations, reports etc.
  • Experience of training others in grant-writing, particularly budget-writing and aspects of grant-writing relating to institutional support for research, in collaboration with the Office for Research and Innovation
  • Proven ability to train and support others in day-to-day budget management
  • Excellent IT and report-writing skills
Knowledge & Experience – (Desirable):
  • Experience of working with regulatory aspects of research funding and research projects
  • Experience of working with industry partners
