Our Purpose
Our Buyer/Planning team, within our Operations Scheduling department, is a key function to ensure reliable and predictable supply of raw materials to our Manufacturing locations in Ireland. We focus on developing and managing world class supply chains to support Manufacturing requirements, and the Medtronic Mission to help expand access to quality healthcare. Buyer/Planners are directly involved in the effective purchase order management, supplier forecasting and alignment on delivery commitments from our suppliers.
Buyer/Planners collaborate with Strategic Operations Sourcing partners on supplier development activity and process standardisation of raw materials supply management tools. They are responsible for ensuring materials inventory goals are achieved and obsolescence is always minimised. Buyer/Planners are responsible for communicating product availability information to internal stakeholders.

A Day in The Life Of:
- Sources, purchases, plans, and schedules the movement of raw materials, packaging materials, parts, components, services, and related material through production and inventory process.
- Identifies raw material, component, and related requirements from engineering and production specifications and schedules.
- In front-end procurement mode, analyses data and determines factors that affect prices and determines lowest cost consistent with quality, reliability, and ability to meet required schedules.
- Coordinates and follows up with production, warehouse, and engineering personnel to ensure appropriate procurement, scheduling, and movement of materials and services.
- Compiles information to keep informed on price trends and manufacturing processes aligning with the Category Management team for commercial negotiations.
- Maintain strong working relationships and communications with Manufacturing and Suppliers to confirm production/shipping schedules whilst maintaining strong purchase order standard work aligned with Medtronic policy.
- Maintain Item Master on ERP and manage Engineering changes (ECOs).
- Inventory Management: Support reporting, inventory parameters, inventory reduction and inventory turns increase targets. Product Life Cycle management (end of life component management).
- Participate/Lead on cross functional teams on identified projects (examples New Product Introduction, Lean events, A3 – DMAIC process improvements etc.)
- Monitor performance of suppliers and collaborate on demand analysis planning.
- Delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results.
- Provides support, guidance and coaching to other team members in the department.
Key Skills & Experience
- Requires a Level 8 Degree and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
- Requires practical knowledge and demonstrated competence within job area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
- OpEx Training Lean and Six Sigma – experience in a continuous improvement environment an advantage.
- Excellent analytical, planning, numerical and organizational skills are required.
- Interpersonal and presentation skills required for internal and external liaisons with Suppliers and Medtronic stakeholders.
- Effective negotiation skills and experience in negotiation.
- Proficient IS System Skills including knowledge of Microsoft office packages (Particularly Excel) and MPS/MRP ERP system knowledge.
- Will demonstrate initiative to take on additional responsibilities.
