We are seeking a market expert to join our Irish and Northern Ireland Team as a Senior Consultant/Consultant. We are open on the location of the postholder, but would require occasional expensed travel to one of our office locations in Dublin, London or Norwich. You will be required to lead on origination and delivery of consultancy projects, support on the development and delivery of our Market Intelligence Analysis Products and our Training programs for the Irish and Northern Irish Market.

Our team of consultants leverage our insight and knowledge to deliver clear, relevant and commercially valuable services to our customers. You will get to work with developers, retailers, end users, data centres, flexibility providers, third party intermediaries, suppliers, investors, regulators, Government and system/market operators.
Our team have experience in all energy sectors to support our customers’ needs, by working as a team and leveraging Cornwall Insight’s wider research and analysis. The work is diverse and allows you to be at the forefront of change in the energy sector.
Example of client consulting projects include:
- Commercial support: advising our clients on new market entry, growth opportunities, auction strategies, route to market (e.g. PPAs) and commercial models
- Investment appraisal: modelling market revenues for different generation and storage assets for standalone assets, hybrid, behind the meter and back up generation for LEUs.
- Regulatory change: advising our clients on new and changing regulation as well as designing and implementing systems and processes to support their regulatory requirements
- Energy policy: analysing the likely impact of different regulations and financial incentives on future investment and plant retirements
- Research: analyse companies, trends, and industries
You will also support delivery of our Analysis Products including modelling Products in Ireland and Northern Ireland and to deliver our training courses on the Ireland and Northern Ireland energy market as required to deliver learning that covers both theory and practice to our clients.
Example of Analysis Products include:
- Industry Essentials: Weekly, Monthly Market Insight reports and SEM Commodity Pricing Report
- SEM Benchmark Power Curve: 30 year forecast of wholesale prices, commodities and generation/demand profiles.
- SEM Battery Revenue Forecast: quarterly report on the potential revenues for BESS assets
Key Responsibilities
As a Cornwall Insight Senior Consultant/Consultant, you will be working with a diverse range of clients and on topics and issues that are at the forefront of energy market change. Knowledge gained will be shared with colleagues across the business to ensure insights are deployed across the company’s service delivery. You will be required to work across our three pillars of Analysis, Consulting and Training. This will include:
- Leading on the origination and execution of consultancy projects, ensuring they are delivered professionally to the customers’ requirements, on budget and time.
- Supporting with the origination and development of our analysis products, providing insight, assisting with assumptions and providing quality assurance as necessary.
- Supporting in the origination, development and delivery of our Training offering. Supporting colleagues in online and in person training programs to our clients.
- Undertaking business development activity to expand Cornwall Insight’s presence and customer base across the Irish and Northern Irish market.
- Meeting potential customers and developing propositions to meet their needs; attending industry events; building external networks; and effectively communicating with new business prospects by email or telephone.
- Working with GB-based companies with Irish energy interests, and on projects related to the GB market.
- Working closely with colleagues across Cornwall Insight Group, sharing insight and procuring support as necessary.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
The ideal candidate will have strong presentation skills which will enable them to clearly present solutions to clients. They should be comfortable conducting research and analysis in order to establish a good understanding of the business at hand.

- Ireland & Northern Ireland Electricity Market knowledge
- Experience with a low carbon developer, major utility, Regulator or System Operator
- Knowledge of retail electricity market
- Knowledge of Commodity and Electricity Trading
- Educated to degree level – with a desire to use specialist expertise and knowledge to inform commercial, policy and regulatory developments (essential)
- 5+ years of experience in the Irish/ Northern Irish energy market and/or a consulting role (essential)
- Excellent written English and Microsoft Package experience (essential)
- Strong initiative, self-motivation and time management skills (essential)
- Ability to collect, analyse and interpret complex quantitative data and information (essential)
- Ability to deliver client work efficiently to externally driven deadlines (essential)
- Proactive and highly motivated to meet customer requirements (essential)
- Excellent interpersonal and organisation skills (essential)
- Proven track record in leading on multi discipline projects (desirable)
- Portfolio of potential customers with an interest in projects and consultancy within the energy market (desirable)
- “On the ground” experience in renewable power generation or storage with a developer, asset operator or investor (desirable but not essential)
- Experience of Power System Analysis specifically network modelling (desirable but not essential)
- Experience of the grid connection process in Ireland/Northern Ireland (desirable but not essential)
- Experience of the Gas Network in Ireland/Northern Ireland (desirable but not essential)
- Knowledge of the GB energy market (desirable but not essential)
