Job Summary
Plan, direct, and supervise operations production processes and personnel within the shift Operations structure, under the appropriate guidance and leadership. Responsible for Safety, accountable for adherence to procedures / quality, production, maintenance, and schedules on assigned shifts; promote effective team member/Company relations to help improve team engagement and customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safe operation being the primary objective, the Shift Supervisor ensures good schedules are achieved in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures, this includes efficient shift start up handover to next shift and driving performance to achieve site metrics, Safety. Quality, Performance, Financial etc.
- Maintain plant safety at the highest level with a focus on prevention of incidents via the See do Day (Near Miss Reporting) Program as well as providing an immediate response-thorough investigation-corrective action for all hazardous occurrences and accidents.
- Out of hours the Shift Supervisor acts for the Area Manager and engages the site call out support system as required.
- Provides front line response for safety, quality and plant downtime issues. Troubleshoots problems on the shop floor in conjunction with quality standards with the appropriate engineering/ process engineering support.
- When senior management is not onsite during weekends, the supervisor will serve as the site lead and point of contact for operational, warehouse, and maintenance staff. They will also be responsible for escalating any issues to the appropriate department owners as per escalation process.
- Act as incident responder for the site during periods when EHS and management are offsite.
- Constantly work to improve the compliance culture with respect to quality, housekeeping, cGMP, utilizing plant systems such as Deviation, CAPA and Change Control.
- Complete production paperwork including opening and closing work order documentation.
- Carry out complete review of Batch Cards including sign off.
- In conjunction with the Area Manager participate actively in Waterford Lean Daily Management System. Monitor actual v planned performance and take corrective actions as necessary in order to meet targets for safety, RFT quality, output and efficiency.
- Participate in production teams and plant cross functional teams. Play an active and key role in continuous improvement initiatives/projects.
- Promote and support site initiatives including safety programs, lean initiatives, training programs, and consistently interpret and apply all policies, practices and procedures among plant team members.
- Support Area Manager in Organization and execution of training for the team; identification of training requirements for the team; planning and evaluation of the personnel development activities in line with the company targets.
- Manage the team’s performance, conduct performance 1 to 1’s, support recruitment, training and development plans while addressing any issues that arise in a timely manner.
- Maintain a positive employee relations atmosphere. Ensure that there is good communication and co-operation by encouraging knowledge sharing.
- Participate in the resolution of team members relations issues.
- Review and approve work time in the appropriate timekeeping system. Maintain and verify accuracy of the hours each team member has worked.
- Adjust direct labor to support demand and manage available resources to ensure on time production and delivery of customer orders with consistent focus on labor absorption.
- Respects and is aware of all relevant SOPs as per company policy that pertain to the position.
- Undertakes necessary training and re-training to ensure full understanding of the latest policies.
- Act in accordance with the company’s Guiding Principles and adherence to the corporate Code of Conduct.
- Compliance to all local site Environmental, Health and Safety regulations.
- Compliance to all local site company policies, procedures and corporate policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education
- Degree in Engineering or business-related discipline preferred
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, including supervisory experience required
- Experience with SAP systems preferred
