Cumas New Ross is the business name of Co. Wexford Community Workshop established in 1975. We provide support and services to adults with a mild to moderate intellectual disability. To support our mission, vision, and development of the organisation we are looking for:
- Social Care Workers (full time, permanent)
Role Requirements
- Candidate must hold a CORU -approved Social Care Worker qualification or be eligible for registration with the Social Care Worker Registration Board maintained by CORU or be registered with Social Care Workers Registration Board maintained by CORU ( evidence will be required)
- A minimum of 6 months’ work experience working with individuals with intellectual disability
- Work experience working with individuals with complex needs a distinct advantage
- Excellent IT and report writing skills
- Candidate must hold a full clean driving licence vilid in Ireland and be willing to drive company vehicle
- Be currently eligible to work in Ireland
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To support the Person in Charge with all aspects of the effective running of the residential service
- To facilitate and implement a person-centred approach for residents appropriate to their wishes and goals
- To facilitate, encourage and develop each resident’s choice and decision-making skills, and ensuring the resident and their representatives are actively involved in the decision-making process
- To enable each resident to pursue and maintain their individual hobbies and interests and facilitate residents to actively participate and integrate into the community
- To support develop the self-help and social skills of each resident enabling them to maximise their independence and control, acting as a Key Worker for specific residents
- To ensure the best possible health and wellbeing of residents in all areas of their lives including health and personal care.
- Be familiar with and ensure that policies, procedures, and codes of practice of the Services are adhered to
- Be responsible for all aspects of Health and Safety of service users and staff and compliance with Health and Safety legislation, ensure reporting and recording of incidents meet the service standards and participate in incident reviews or other investigations
- Be responsible for the safe use and care of equipment and report faulty equipment etc., as it arises
- Be familiar and operate to fire regulations and emergency procedures and participate in the implementation of same
- Ensure that all records in relation to individuals supported by the services are up to date, correctly filed and managed as per the service’s records management system
- To manage risk in a systematic way that is embedded in a culture of safety, welfare and quality of life for residents. Report all accident/incidents and take appropriate action.
- Ensure that all petty cash and the personal monies of the residents are properly accounted for. Keeping relevant records and ensuring that accounts are checked and balanced
- Ensure the homes of the residents are clean, comfortable and report any maintenance issues
- Attend and participate fully in regular staff meetings where all aspects of the service area are discussed with a view to maintaining high standards.
- Deal with confidential information in a discreet and responsible manner
- Report all matters of concern immediately to the Person in Charge
- Attend mandatory and specific skills training courses as scheduled
- Provide cover as required
Positions are based in New Ross area, Co. Wexford.
A six-month probationary period will apply. Garda Clearance and reference checks will be required for all prospective employees.
