Evening shifts 4pm - 8pm/5pm - 8pm


We are currently looking to hire Household Assistants to join our Household Department here in the Rotunda. The successful candidate will be working alongside a team of dedicated Household professionals completing various Household duties around the Hospital. Based in the city centre and on the grounds of the oldest continuously operating maternity hospital in the world, you will have the opportunity to work with colleagues across all professional disciplines and become part of the Rotunda family.

The successful candidate will assist and contribute to the smooth running of the Household Department and will complete all designed Household duties activities including vacuuming, buffing, scrubbing and dusting in line with infection control and HIQA Guidelines. You will be required to adhere and comply with the Hospital's policies and statutory regulations.


Essential Experience:

Have a minimum of six months recent experience in a similar role in a hospital or hotel, or a similar environment.

Have experience in dealing with the public.

Essential Skills/Knowledge:

Have a good command of the English language.

Demonstrate a positive outlook and attitude.

Have a proven ability to balance quality with quantity.

Have proven organisational skills.


Desirable Skills/Knowledge:

Have experience working with cleaning machinery (e.g: buffers, Scrub dryers).

Have knowledge of HIQA standards.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Vacuum all floors in the following areas: wards, offices, surgeries, milk room, smoke room, lecture /tutorial rooms, corridors, waiting areas, lift, changing rooms etc paying particular attention to the corners, under the furniture, beds etc. All free standing furniture to be moved where possible.

2. Wash all floor areas in the wards etc. as outlined in method statements/work routes.

3. Buff all the floor areas in the wards etc. as outlined in method statements/work routes.

4. Scrub the selected floor areas in rotation as outlined in method statements/work routes.

5. Damp dust all the wards including all the ledges, presses, window sills, skirting boards, light shades, televisions (up to hand height), and doors as outlined in method statements/work routes.

6. Damp dust all ledges on the corridor. Spot check all the walls for stains and splashes, clean polish interior glass as outlined in method statements/work routes.

7. Bathrooms / WC / shower areas washed thoroughly as outlined in method statements/work routes.

8. Empty, wash, and reline the bins as outlined in method statements/work routes.

9. Restock the supplies daily as outlined in method statements/work routes.

10. Damp dust all the chairs daily. Clean weekly ensuring that all the stains are removed.

11. Report any missing rubber seals from the chairs to the Household Services Officer to have them repaired and to prevent scratches on the floor.
