Assistant Solicitor

McElhinney & Associates
€30,894 - €39,119 a year
County Donegal
Full time

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly organised solicitor to join our practice, with a primary focus on personal injury matters

The role will involve managing a busy and varied caseload from initial instructions through to settlement or hearing preparation, with an emphasis on case progression, legal drafting, discovery, and file management. The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day conduct of litigation files, including drafting pleadings and correspondence, liaising with clients, counsel and experts, and preparing briefs and court books.

This is a practice-led role, working closely with the principal solicitor, and would particularly suit a solicitor who enjoys the structure and pace of file work and legal analysis. While court attendance is not a primary feature of this position, the solicitor will be integral in preparing cases for hearing and in ensuring files are managed to the highest professional standard.

Key Responsibilities:

· Managing plaintiff personal injuries litigation files through the Circuit and High Courts

· Drafting proceedings, affidavits, and discovery

· Preparing instructions to counsel and expert witnesses

· Regular client contact and case updates

· Preparing settlement documentation and attending settlement consultations (as required)

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

· A minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience, ideally in personal injury litigation

· A strong understanding of PIAB and court procedures

· Excellent drafting, organisational, and time management skills

· A high level of attention to detail and professional presentation

· Confidence in dealing with clients and third parties in a professional manner

This position offers a solicitor the chance to be part of a collegial and supportive practice, with a steady flow of quality work and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the progression of files and client outcomes.
