We are seeking a skilled and reliable Chargehand (Chargeman) to oversee and coordinate day-to-day site activities and ensure work is carried out efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, hands-on experience in mechanical, and the ability to manage a small team of tradespeople and apprentices on-site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate the work of technicians, tradespeople, and apprentices on-site
- Interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications to guide work activities
- Ensure all tasks are carried out in accordance with project timelines, safety protocols, and quality standards
- Report daily progress and issues to the Site Supervisor or Project Manager
- Perform hands-on tasks when required and provide technical support to the team
- Ensure that materials, tools, and equipment are available and used appropriately
- Assist in training and mentoring junior staff
- Conduct inspections to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with safety and quality regulations
- Liaise with other trades and contractors on-site to ensure smooth workflow
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a similar supervisory or senior trade role (e.g., mechanical, plumbing)
- Relevant trade qualification or apprenticeship (e.g., FETAC Level 6 or equivalent)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and best practices
- Excellent communication and team leadership skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Full driving licence (desirable)
Desirable:
- Safe Pass, Manual Handling, and other relevant site certifications
- Experience in commercial or industrial projects
- Familiarity with site management software or tools
