Overview
- The appointee will work as part of a team who decontaminate and sterilise surgical instrument sets and flexible endoscopes (Reusable Invasive Medical Devices-RIMD) contributing to the clinical care of the patient.
- To carry out the collection and delivery, receipt, disassembly, cleaning, inspection, reassembly, packing and disinfection and or sterilization of reusable medical devices and supporting duties.
- Record all tasks using the tracking and tracing systems within the department.
- Work in accordance with the Department’s Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management Systems.
- Work closely with the CSSD team and complete necessary training to provide cover as required by manager.
- The role involves exposure to blood and body fluids
A panel may be formed upon completion of this campaign for full time/part time, permanent/temporary posts in Louth County Hospital.
Essential Criteria
- Hold a qualification in Health Services Skills or Health Care Support at Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI)* Level 5 (or higher).
Or
- Hold a relevant health care qualification at least equivalent to (a) above.
Or
- Possess Level 7 Minor Award in RIMD Decontamination
And
- Candidates must have the personal competence and capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.

Health
A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character
Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
Note1: Candidates must achieve a pass in Ordinary or Higher level papers. A pass in a foundation level paper is not acceptable. Candidates must have achieved these grades on the Leaving Certificate Established programme or the Leaving Certificate Vocational programme. The Leaving Certification Applied Programme does not fulfil the eligibility criteria.
Desirable Skills
- ISO 13485:2016 experience
- Experience in all sections of the decontamination processes
- Understands the concept of urgent/priority medical devices and non-conformances
- Experience of using decontamination equipment
- Can demonstrate the ability to work to strict standards of quality and safety
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and guidelines relating to decontamination process is essential
