Deputy Claims Manager
The duties and responsibilities of the role of Deputy Claims Manager will include, but will not be limited to:
· Handle a portfolio of claims from notification to settlement
· Review and support resolution of complex or high value claims
· Support the Claims Manager with day-to-day oversight of the team.
· Authorise claim payments.
· Act as a point of escalation for complaints.
· Act as a point of referral for technical queries from claims handlers.
· Assist with error and breach handling.
· Respond to internal audits and implement corrective actions where required.
· Assist with insurer audits and prepare relevant documentation.
· Monitor team workflows, service levels, and key performance indicators.
· Assist with onboarding and training of new claims staff.
· Deliver or coordinate training for the claims team.
· Ensure compliance with internal policies and all relevant regulatory requirements.
· Liaise with brokers, policyholders, solicitors, and third-party providers to progress claims.
· Contribute to claims reporting and identify emerging trends.
· Track and monitor settlement rates, recoveries, average settlement cost, average claim lifecycles and service provider cost performance; ensure results are in line with targets; assist the claims manager formulate and implement improvement plans
· Review and approve declinatures
· Deputise for the department manager in their absence
· Ad Hoc duties as and when required
Requirements:
· Minimum of 10 years’ experience handling Commercial, Employers’ Liability (EL), Public Liability (PL) claims and Personal Injury Motor claims
· Previous managerial or leadership experience is essential
· Strong technical knowledge of claims handling and resolution processes
· Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
· Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to compliance and quality standard.
· Previous experience in delivering claims training is an advantage
