This is carried out through auditing and advisory activities, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation at the airports, and monitoring and reporting on key environmental information relevant to the business. The Environmental Officer report the Group Environmental Manager to deliver key technical competencies, implement the environmental compliance audit programme and monitor and report on key environmental information.
- Develop and deliver environmental management compliance and standards for our airports and the assets within our group, including oversight of the activities and actions at Dublin and Cork Airports.
- Manage the environmental audit programme at our airports, to ensure that environmental regulation and standards are implemented and complied with.
- Assist in the management of environmental monitoring schedules, environmental monitoring results and reporting (these will include water, air quality, nature and land use monitoring)
- Ensure the continuous improvement of the environmental management approach and delivery
- Review and compile information relating to AIE requests and engagement with the Office of the Commissioner for Environmental Information.
- Co-ordinate environmental monitoring programmes (air, water, chemicals, land use and discharge licence related)
- Prepare periodic compliance reports related to our airports.
- Deliver environmental compliance monitoring programme in line with best international practice, to monitor the continued implementation of all regulatory requirements.
- Carry out compliance audits, all required elements to close out, including the review, track and development of rectification plans arising from the audit or compliance review process.
- Deliver ISO14001 accreditation for relevant Group business units, in addition to any other relevant environmental management standards.
- Manage the relevant data to complete compliance reporting for the Trade Effluent Discharge Licence.
- Assist in the evaluation of environmental criteria of proposed developments relating to infrastructure, equipment, process and procedural change.
- Deliver environmental awareness training throughout the business, including international business.
- Gather relevant information and data in responding to requests made under legislation relating to Access to Information on the Environment (AIE) and engagement with the Office of the Commissioner for Environmental Information.
- Manage data and reporting requirements for Senior Management in relation to compliance monitoring and environmental performance issues.
- Monitor environmental and sustainability legislation, technical guidance, industry standards and best practice to identify and communicate related risks and opportunities.
- Engage with key stakeholders, internal and external – including regulators, policy makers, and airport campus stakeholders, driving change to ensure environmental best practice.
- Contribute to other environmental sustainability initiatives – including waste, circular economy, biodiversity, air quality, planning and construction.
- Prepare information to report to Senior Management and Board, and to the public in relation to environmental performance across daa Group.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working in the Environmental sector.
- A highly motivated individual comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills - comfortable liaising, meeting and dealing with stakeholders, regulatory representatives and other team members on a day-to-day basis.
- Subject matter expertise in environmental sustainability, environmental monitoring and / or certified management systems.
- Excellent report writing with good attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience of providing technical support as part of a team.
- Proven ability to interpret applicable legislation and develop appropriate policy and / or procedures to demonstrate compliance in coordination with the business.
- Subject matter expertise in environmental sustainability, environmental monitoring and / or certified management systems
- Positive attitude, and comfortable working in a culture of open feedback to effectively manage risk for our business
Education & Qualifications
- Degree qualified in a relevant science, environmental or engineering subject.
- Masters qualified in a relevant specialism desirable, but not essential.
Professional Memberships
- Membership of a relevant professional body desirable.
