Job description
The role of the Health Care Assistant is to assist in the care of the Residents’ well-being and to help in the general day to day activities of the Home. The Health Care Assistant shares with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of Residents in a way that respects the privacy, the dignity of the individual and other basic values that ensure an excellent quality of life.
To promote, through the fulfilment of their day to day responsibilities, an environment that is warm, pleasant, safe and caring for all our Residents.
1. Assist in getting patients up in the morning and to bed at night, or rest during the day.
2. Assist in the serving of meals and refreshments, and as appropriate, washing up, cleaning away, setting tables and trays, preparing light meals as may be required from time to time. Assist residents who may require help with eating.
3. Ensure all used equipment is thoroughly clean and returned to its proper place after use and that all cleaning materials are properly sealed and stored away safely.
4. Ensure all medical aides and equipment for residents’ use are kept thoroughly clean.
5. Sluice soiled bed linen and residents’ clothing according to hygiene practice; assist in infection control by following all protocols.
6. Prepare residents to see the doctor, nurse or any other professional visitor; accompany residents to the doctor, on visits, outings, etc. as may be requested from time to time.
7. Ensure that all residents are mobilized, assisted with turning and helped to position/reposition as required, in order to alleviate any damage to their skin from pressure.
8. Give special attention to incontinent residents – assist in changing their clothing, bathing them and changing bed linen as necessary.
9. Help residents to go to the chapel, dining room, activities, toilet etc.
10. Help maintain residents’ physical, mental, emotional and social alertness by talking to them, taking them out for walks, sharing with them in activities such as writing, reading and hobbies.
11. Assist in household duties e.g. bed making, mopping, dusting and polishing furniture, fittings shelves and ledges in residents’ rooms.
12. Notify the occurrence of illness and all accidents (minor or major) to the person in charge.
13. As observed, record (and monitor as directed) the emotional and physical well-being of residents and report changes to the person in charge.
14. Participate fully in a handover to other nursing staff at the beginning and end of shift.
15. Be familiar with fire precautions and emergency procedures.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract fixed term 12 months, 36 hour week . 3x12 hour shifts
Salary: €13.77 -€14.75per hour

Experience:
- Healthcare: 1 year (required)
Licence/Certification:
- QQI Level 5 in Healthcare Support (required)
- Valid work permit/ visa if required. (preferred)
