We are currently looking for an Junior Process Technician to join our team here at Novelplast. The Junior Process Technician is responsible for supporting the efficient and safe operation of the production process at Novelplast. This role plays a key part in raw material management, production monitoring, quality assurance, and finished goods handling while ensuring compliance with all safety and operational procedures. Work will be either day shifts, or on a shift rota system involving day/night shift. You will work as a member of a busy team.
Key Responsibilities:
Health and Safety
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across the production floor.
- Ensure full compliance with PPE usage and safety protocols at all times.
- Immediately report any safety incidents, near-misses, or potential hazards.
- Proactively contribute to eliminating safety risks and improving safe work practices.
- Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and mandatory training.
Raw Materials Management
- Inspect and accurately document the testing of all raw materials used in production blends.
- Escalate any raw material quality concerns promptly to the Production Team Leader.
- Adhere to prescribed production blend formulas; communicate any deviations during daily operations meetings and in end-of-shift reports.
- Ensure raw material storage aligns with ERP location requirements and optimal space utilization.
- Implement blend modifications as directed by the Production Team Lead.
- Safely handle materials to prevent accidents, spills, and waste.
- Prepare raw materials and waste for processing or shipment (e.g., shredding rock etc.)
Process Management
- Operate and monitor all production equipment including extrusion lines and TOMRA units.
- Maintain efficient production output aligned with target specifications (Run rate, Downtime, Haze, etc.).
- Identify and adjust machine settings to maintain product quality and performance.
- Troubleshoot process issues and document corrective actions taken.
- Perform routine quality checks, including IV, colour, and lab extruder.
- Manage and minimize production waste while prioritizing personal and team safety.
- Operate Counterbalance Forklift and Clamp Truck safely and in accordance with training.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the production area including equipment cleaning, general housekeeping, and yard upkeep.
Finished Goods Management
- Conduct laboratory tests on finished goods and accurately record results.
- Ensure all finished materials meet required specifications before release for shipment.
- Update ERP systems in real-time using correct scanner functions and labelling.
- Oversee efficient bagging and containerization of finished products to optimise capacity.
- Identify and isolate off-spec or reject material to avoid contamination.
Communication and Collaboration
- Maintain accurate and timely reporting, including end-of-shift reports covering performance, material usage, downtime, and deviations.
- Conduct effective shift handovers with outgoing/incoming shift teams.
- Mentor and support the onboarding and training of new team members.
- Foster open communication with colleagues and leadership.
- Collaborate with the Production Team Lead and Operations Trainer on process improvements.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and provide feedback to the management team.
- Engage in required training and development programs.
- Seek clarification when unsure about practices or findings.
Experience:
- 2 years production experience (beneficial).
- 2 years forklift driving experience (beneficial).
- Extrusion experience, preferably with post-industrial PET (beneficial).
- Experience with Starlinger machinery and systems (beneficial).
