Ballymote Community Nursing Unit is registered to accommodate 32 male or female residents who require long-term residential care or who require short-term respite, convalescence or palliative care.
The nursing home is located in a residential area a short walk from the town of Ballymote. The building is single-storey and is decorated in a home-like way. The home has safe garden areas that are currently located and cultivated with raised beds and shrubs to make them interesting to residents.

Job Description:
Job Title: Maintenance Operative
Reporting to: Director of Nursing
Purpose of job: To undertake general maintenance and repairs throughout the home. To be responsible that all Health and Safety standards and procedures are implemented.
Main responsibilities:
Daily check for emergency work recorded in the Maintenance and Repairs book.
To prioritise requests made for general repairs and maintenance.
Order monthly stores and distribute them weekly.
Regular checks of heating, lighting, ventilation, and water are monitored and maintained
Check and record all fire safety equipment weekly and report any problems to the relevant authority.
Ensure that all outside contractors are controlled and monitored throughout areas of the home where their input is required, and ensure their compliance with both the homes and statutory requirements concerning safety.
Bring to the attention of the Director of Nursing any information or new legislation you cannot effectively deal with.
To have in place records of maintenance checks by relevant authorities for all equipment; paying particular attention to patient moving hoists, pressure relieving mattresses and beds
The provision of induction training and annual review for all staff regarding emergency procedures and specifically, action to be taken in the event of a fire occurring in the home.
Monitor the use of equipment as directed by relevant suppliers
Contact the relevant companies about faulty equipment and machinery
Advise staff regarding the proper use and care of equipment within their units.
Comply with all health and safety policies and procedures, within the Home and grounds of the Home.
General:
Attend relevant meetings when required
Practice best management with the use of resources
Never try and repair equipment that is not within your scope; contact the suppliers who will send out a person qualified to deal with the same Show interest in upgrading skills
Project a professional, efficient and caring manner towards management, staff, service users and visitors
To be 'on call' for any emergencies that may arise.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Qualified in carpentry skills (desirable)
A qualification in Health and Safety (desirable)
Electrical qualification (desirable)
Have an up-to-date driver's license that includes large vehicles
Ability to establish priorities
To be able to work independently and proceed with tasks without supervision
Ability to handle recurring problems
Effective written communication skills
Self-motivated and resourceful with good interpersonal skills
Show interest in upgrading skills
