The Merchandising & Bar Design Manager will report, develop & merchandise loading plans based on analysed demand as well as providing insight and analysis to shape decision making within the dnata and Aer Lingus Retail business – such as Buying and Supply Chain. They will manage the performance of ranges, planning promotions and markdowns as necessary as well as overseeing critical forecasting requirements for the Supply Chain teams to organise delivery and distribution of stock. The role ensures the accurate design of the overall design of the loading specifications of the inflight retail product, working to the space capacity assigned to optimise sales and minimise wastage. Administration of the bar design process is key, with this role assuming responsibility for all master data management within the retail systems and processing of the packing instructions into the retail back office system for the operational teams to follow. This role is designed for an individual with a passion for driving data led decision making, through the generation of appropriate analysis and insights.
The Role
- Plan product ranges and prepare sales and stock plans in conjunction with the Procurement and Retail Category Buying team
- Forecast trading profits and sales, and optimise the sales volume and profitability of designated product categories
- Plan budgets and present sales forecasts and figures for new ranges – working closely with the Supply Chain team.
- Collaborating with Retail Buying and Marketing teams to understand analysis requirements, identify opportunities where data can be used to answer questions and owning the delivery of this
- Managing the product life cycle for each category area, from initial planning stages right through to exit, communicating plans to key stakeholders within the business.
- Develop and deliver Planograms for in-flight retail products with an emphasis on sales optimisation, waste minimisation, space, weight and balance.
- Monitor the planograms weekly via load vs sold reporting and amend to maximise sales and optimise loading by product and set up plans on the Retail Back Office System.
- Develop range presentation and packing exercises, representative of the products and services utilised and the expected sales levels.
- Communicate with all key stakeholders packing plan and bar design changes to ensure critical paths are adhered to.
- Manage and deliver any bespoke or adhoc bar design requirements according to airline customer briefs.
- Deliver service improvement recommendations relating to bar design, based on trend, feedback and data analysis.
- Together with the category buyer set the pricing, deals and promotional plans ensuring key KPI’s including net sales and net margin are achieved in line with budget
- Dealing with adhoc data analysis to deliver insight and support business decision making
- Supporting retail trials, promotional activity and merchandising planning with hypothesis testing and analysis, feeding into business cases with insight to critically assess new initiative sign offs and rollouts
- Collaborating with IT technical teams, IT Partners, Architects and Data Owners to make sure data requirements for retail data are captured and prioritized
- Providing summary analysis weekly/monthly to leadership teams on key retail operational and trading / commercial performance
- Building visually engaging data dashboards in Power BI which provide insight and challenge the thinking of non-technical audiences
- Presenting insight in an easily digestible way for non-technical audiences
- Querying, organise and manipulate large datasets to present and re-structure data tailored to the required output ensuring that all analysis meets user requirements
- Creating scalable, accurate analysis/reporting that meets business needs, investigating problems and providing insight and recommendations to your stakeholders

The Requirements
- Experience in building seasonally appropriate ranges, utilising sales analysis and appropriate market and trend data.
- Ability to exploit opportunities and mitigate issues, working with cross functional teams to manage changes as appropriate.
- Merchandising / demand planning experience ideally gained in a FMCG environment
- Experience working effectively with cross functional teams including supply chain, marketing and IT
- Supplier management experience, able to negotiate and influence effectively to achieve desired business outcomes.
- Strong working knowledge of excel including pivot tables and the ability to build workbooks with complex formula e.g. vlookups, sumifs
- Flexibility with working hours, be able to work weekends when needed
- Be able to undergo 5 year background check and garda vetting
- Authorized to work full time within Ireland
