Occupational Health Nurse Clinical Support
The Occupational Health Nurse Clinical Support plays a key role supporting the Occupational Health Nursing Manager in the delivery of high-quality occupational health services across multiple client site. Reporting to the Occupational Health Nursing Manager this role supports a large team of OH nurses in delivering responsive, efficient, and client-focused care. This role will be based in the Cognate Cork Clinic but will involve travel to Client sites as business needs dictate. This is a full time 5 days a week role.
Key Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership & Support
- Provide day-to-day support to a team of OH Nurses and Technicians operating across various client contracts and locations
- Act as a first point of contact for clinical support, staff queries, and operational troubleshooting
- Foster a positive, collaborative team culture focused on continuous improvement and service excellence
2. Clinical Operations & Service Coordination
- Coordinate nurse scheduling to ensure adequate coverage of onsite clinics, remote case work, and ad-hoc client requirements.
- Provide cover at client sites as business needs dictate
- Monitor daily activity and case management flow to ensure service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) are met.
- Escalate resourcing issues, delays, or client concerns to the Occupational Health Nursing Manager as needed.
3. Quality & Governance
- Support the delivery of safe, compliant, and high-quality services aligned with clinical governance standards
- Assist in internal audits
- Promote adherence to data protection, confidentiality, and professional practice standards at all times.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR, and data protection regulations.
- Ensure awareness and compliance with QMS policies and procedures.
- Ensure awareness and compliance with ISMS policies and procedures.
4. Staff Development & Training
- Support the onboarding and induction of new clinical team members, ensuring they understand consultancy procedures, systems, and client expectations.
- Identify training or development needs within the team and support CPD efforts.
- Encourage team participation in internal workshops, updates, and reflective practice.
5. Communication & Client Liaison
- Maintain clear and consistent communication within the clinical team and across wider consultancy teams (admin, operations, client managers).
- Support communication of client feedback, service updates, or new clinical protocols.
- When needed, liaise directly with clients to clarify clinical queries or support incident management.
6. Clinical Delivery
- Maintain an active clinical caseload, delivering OH services including:
- Sickness absence case management
- Pre-placement and fitness-for-work assessments
- Health surveillance and screening
- Vaccination and wellbeing programs
- Demonstrate best practice and support clinical decision-making among colleagues
Desirable Skills & Attributes
· Hold a general nurse qualification
· Hold full An Bord Altranais registration
· Hold a recognised qualification in Occupational Health
· Have at least a minimum of 4 years post registration experience, two of which have been in Occupational Health
- Strong clinical leadership and team coordination abilities
- Consultancy awareness and ability to balance clinical and commercial priorities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially in multi-site, remote, or client-facing settings
- High level of organisation, autonomy, and adaptability
- Sound knowledge of occupational health legislation and evidence-based practice
