Job Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Process Engineer to join Midleton Distillery, reporting to the Lead Operations Process Engineer within Distilling Operations.

The Process Engineer will be responsible for supporting and assisting with the day-to-day operations of the distillery, ensuring the safe and efficient production of Pot/Grain spirit and by-products in compliance with relevant standards. Additionally, the role is crucial in optimising plant performance by identifying and implementing process solutions to enhance efficiency. The Process Engineer’s focus will be to assist the team in coordinating distillation activities to maximise resources, produce the highest product quality, minimise operating costs, meet production schedules, provide support to other departments, and ensure that all internal project work meets departmental demands.

A key focus of the role will be continuous improvement, identifying opportunities, and creating a robust business plan to support change. The Process Engineer will deliver twelve-week continuous improvement plans and drive value engineering.

Main responsibilities will include:

· Provide process engineering support for daily distillery operations, ensuring compliance with best practices, local procedures, and regulatory requirements.

· Offer technical support to optimise specific operations, with a key focus on yields, performance improvements, and KPIs.

· Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities, delivering measurable process optimisation initiatives. This includes developing the basis of design, managing change, calculating return on investment, integrating and evaluating processes, and updating procedures.

· Ensure the plant operates efficiently, with equipment meeting specifications and design capacities, including performance, OEE, and energy efficiency in line with ISO50001 standards.

· Maintain thorough knowledge and competence in Health and Safety, Environmental, Quality, and Emergency response procedures specific to the Midleton site.

· Develop KPIs for key processes and track them on a weekly basis.

· Participate in the design, installation, and commissioning of relevant CAPEX projects.

· Lead and collaborate on key distilling operations process projects, providing detailed input and calculations.

· Ensure the plant is maintained to FEMAS and ISO standards.

· Liaise with Maintenance, Automation, and CAPEX projects departments to ensure effective planning and control of maintenance, automation, and project work.

· Proactively promote continuous improvement of process activities.

· Investigate process incidents with the Distilling Operations team, implementing the five whys and causal tree methodologies to determine root causes. Identify and implement necessary changes following incidents.

· Assist with authorising permits as required.

· Participate in team meetings and company initiative programmes.

· Assist in delivering key reports and compiling information to ensure all KPIs and distillation targets are on track

Qualifications, skills and experience required:

· Candidates should hold a third level qualification in Process / Electrical /Mechanical Engineering discipline

· 2 years’ experience in a similar role within a production environment desirable

· Proven team working experience.

· Strong troubleshooting, analytical & engineering data analysis skills

· Good knowledge and understanding of all production operations at Midleton Distillery

· Strong knowledge and awareness of quality, environment, health and safety best practice

· Effective communication, influencing and interpersonal skills

· Pro-active and highly motivated self-starter with strict attention to detail

· Possesses a mindset open to change and challenges the status quo

· A strong team player

· IT Literate and numerate

· Flexibility is required

· Strong employee development skills desirable
