Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced QA Analyst with a strong focus on SQL and Data Warehouse testing to join our expanding IT team. This individual will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality of our data warehouse solutions, including the testing of ETL processes, database integrity, and data transformations. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail and a thorough understanding of database architecture, SQL, and data pipeline testing, ensuring that the data solutions we deliver are accurate, consistent, and of the highest quality. This role sits within the pay band C of the IT department.
Job Responsibilities
- Work closely with data engineers, business analysts, and developers to gather both functional and non-functional testing requirements for the data warehouse and related data systems.
- Analyze business and technical requirements, user stories, and data specifications to create comprehensive, traceable test cases for SQL-based data processes, ensuring complete coverage of the data flows from source to destination.
- Write complex SQL queries to verify data transformations, data quality, and data accuracy across various stages of the ETL process, ensuring that data loaded into the data warehouse meets business needs.
- Perform end-to-end testing of ETL processes to ensure data is correctly extracted, transformed, and loaded (ETL) from source systems to the data warehouse.
- Take ownership of data-related defects encountered during testing, logging them clearly in the defect management system and working closely with development teams to resolve issues swiftly.
- Verify data integrity by comparing source data with transformed data, ensuring the consistency, accuracy, and correctness of data in reports, dashboards, and other data outputs.
- Develop detailed test plans, test scripts, and test data for validating SQL-based data systems, ensuring all activities are traceable to requirements and reporting on progress.
- Provide ongoing testing support for data systems and help resolve any issues that arise post-implementation related to data quality.
Job Responsibilities
Education
- Third Level Qualification in Computer Science / IT or relevant work experience.
- ISTQB foundation level certificate
- MS/Azure certifications desirable
Experiences
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in QA testing, with a strong focus on SQL and Data Warehouse testing (including ETL and database validation).
- Hands-on experience writing and executing SQL queries for testing purposes, including complex joins, subqueries, and data validation scripts.
- Experience with test management tools such as JIRA, TestRail is highly desirable for tracking defects and managing test cases.
- Experience with data validation and reconciliation, ensuring data in reports and dashboards reflects accurate, real-time information.
- Familiarity with data versioning, data schema validation, and ensuring consistency across different data environments (e.g., development, testing, and production).
Competencies
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex requirements, test data flows, and ensure that business logic is correctly implemented in data transformations.
- Experience with database management systems like Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL and tableau
- Attention to detail for identifying inconsistencies and defects in large datasets.
- A good understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), particularly within agile environments.
- Proactive mindset with the ability to take ownership of the testing process and ensure quality is embedded at every stage of development.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, providing feedback and clear documentation on test cases and issues.
