Relief Construction Instructor – Construction Skills Programme

JOB PURPOSE
The Relief Construction Instructor is responsible, with the support of the Main Instructor, for the delivery of training and development to learners enrolled in the Construction Skills Programme, supporting their progression towards employment, further education, or apprenticeship pathways. The instructor will deliver practical and theory based training across a range of core and non-certified modules, ensuring learners develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies required in the construction industry. The role also includes maintaining programme records, supporting learner progression plans, and promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment.

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW – CONSTRUCTION SKILLS
Construction Skills is a centre-based programme aimed at equipping learners with the skills needed for employment in the construction sector. The programme focuses on the following key trade areas:
- Bricklaying
- Carpentry
- Basic Plumbing
- Painting and Decorating
Participants have the opportunity to achieve a Level 3 qualification and may progress to more specialised apprenticeship programmes with Kerry Education and Training Board (Kerry ETB). The programme runs for up to 2 years.
3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver systematic relief training in practical and theoretical modules according to programme specifications.
- Facilitate the development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes required in construction industry employment.
- Support learners in achieving certification and meeting individual learning goals.
- Instil professional work attitudes and behaviours through example and direct training.
- Develop and maintain Individual Action Plans (IAPs) with learners to support their progression.
- Ensure learner’s Work Experience details are maintained.
- Maintain accurate records of learner attendance, progress, and assessment outcomes.
- Collaborate with programme and centre staff to ensure a high standard of service delivery.
- Apply and uphold Health & Safety standards in the training environment.
- Promote progression opportunities to employment, further education, or apprenticeships.
- Support learners in literacy, numeracy, and personal development activities.
4. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education & Training
- A recognised technical qualification relevant to construction (e.g. Carpentry, Bricklaying, Painting & Decorating, Plumbing).
- Train the Trainer QQI Level 6 qualification (or equivalent).
Experience
- Experience supervising in a construction site/workshop setting.
- A minimum of 5 years’ practical experience in the construction industry.
- Some experience working with diverse groups would be an advantage.
- Familiarity with processes required to advance into construction would be an advantage.
5. OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
- Must possess a full, clean driving licence and have access to transport.
