The Hatmaker Hotel is a stylish boutique hotel located in the heart of Dungarvan, offering luxurious accommodation and a welcoming atmosphere for both locals and visitors. Our café bar is a vibrant hub serving barista coffee, wine, cakes and pastries and soon introducing a menu of fresh light bites, handcrafted cocktails, and a curated drinks selection. Since opening, we have aimed to build a reputation for quality and service, and we are now looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Bar Person to join and help lead our Food & Beverage team.
Job Description:
As a Senior Bar Person, you will take a leading role in the day-to-day operations of the café & bar. You will be responsible for maintaining high service standards, mentoring junior team members, and ensuring a seamless and welcoming experience for every guest. You’ll be hands-on behind the bar preparing drinks, but also focused on quality control, team support, and helping to manage the pace during busy periods.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead by example in delivering excellent customer service across all areas of the café and bar.
- Take a proactive role in setting up, operating, and closing the bar and café areas.
- Prepare and serve high-quality coffee, drinks, and cocktails consistently.
- Ensure all bar operations run smoothly during service, supporting and guiding other team members.
- Monitor stock levels, assist in ordering supplies, and ensure stock rotation and organisation.
- Handle cash and card transactions accurately and securely.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior staff members in service standards and product knowledge.
- Uphold hygiene and health & safety standards at all times.
- Resolve guest issues and special requests promptly and professionally.
- Communicate effectively with the Food & Beverage Manager and wider hotel team to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Contribute ideas to enhance the bar offering, including drink specials and service improvements.
Key Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in a similar bar or hospitality role.
- Strong knowledge of cocktails, spirits, wines, and barista coffee preparation.
- A genuine passion for hospitality and delivering a top-tier guest experience.
- Confident, friendly, and professional personality with leadership potential.
- Ability to work under pressure in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- HACCP or basic food safety certification is desirable (training can be provided).
- Experience with POS systems and basic bar administration is a plus.
