ABOUT THE POSITION
Black Shamrock is looking for a Material Artist to be part of our creative team and work on ambitious Playstation5, Xbox Series X and PC games. This is a full-time position which involves working in an international environment. The ideal candidate will have a great aesthetic eye, strong understanding of AAA texture and material pipelines, and a history of working in Unreal with realistic and stylized content, with an ability to take creative direction from the Art Director and having shipped a AAA game.
- Create high quality textures and physically based materials for use in real time rendering.
- Create target materials setting the quality and style standards for the project.
- Understanding requirements from key concept art to develop material library, and maintaining alignment with client specifications.
- Work closely with environment artists and lighters to understand the context of their needs.
- Mentoring of other Material Artists.
- Understand game’s visual language and adapt work accordingly.
- Deliver work in accordance with the project's artistic direction, and ensure unified look and consistent quality across the project.
- Update your work based on feedback, and technical engine requirements.
- Comprehensive understanding of PBR pipelines
- Expert knowledge of procedural smart material creation in Substance Designer and Painter
- Good knowledge of sculpting in Zbrush and baking textures (tiling and otherwise)
- Proficient in one DCC (Maya preferably)
- Excellent understanding of materials in Unreal Engine.
- Ability to tweak and adjust textures within Photoshop
- Working knowledge of shader creation within Unreal
- Flexibility to work with multiple art disciplines to achieve the best results (Prop Art, Environment Art, Lighting team)
- Ability to create 3D assets.
- A strong portfolio showcasing your work
- A good understanding of art fundamentals
- Be proactive and self-motivated, work without direct supervision
- Experience with photogrammetry.
