About The Role

Are you passionate about the marine environment and driven to find innovative solutions to complex environmental challenges? Do you want to play a leading role in shaping sustainable development across Ireland’s seas and coasts?

AQUAFACT (part of the APEM Group) is looking for a Senior Marine Consultant to join our team of specialists in marine science and environmental consultancy. We deliver evidence-based solutions that help clients balance development with protecting marine ecosystems.

As Senior Marine Consultant, you will play a leading role in the delivery of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Appropriate Assessment (AA), Natura Impact Statement (NIS), Marine Usage Licence (MUL) applications and Dumping at Sea (DaS) applications across projects in offshore energy, ports and harbours, aquaculture, and coastal developments. From the early scoping stages through to completion, you will liaise with regulators, engineers, stakeholders, and project partners, ensuring effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.

Alongside technical work, you will contribute to tendering, proposals, and budget management, helping secure and deliver projects that support sustainable marine development. You will also play a key role in mentoring and supporting junior colleagues, helping to grow skills and capacity within the consultancy team (including personal development).

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • A degree (Level 8 or higher) in marine science, ecology, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 12-months experience working within a planning, government or environmental consultancy
  • Demonstrated experience delivering EIA and AA reporting (including NIS)
  • Strong technical report writing skills (desktop studies, literature reviews)
  • Good working knowledge of Irish and EU wildlife and planning legislation e.g. Habitats Directive, WFD, MSFD, Marine Usage Licence, aquaculture licence, Dumping at Sea licence
  • Excellent organisational skills, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Strong communication skills for client and stakeholder engagement
  • GIS experience

What helps you stand out:

  • Master’s/PhD in a relevant field
  • Project management experience (budgeting, scheduling, tendering)
  • Marine monitoring or environmental data analysis skills
  • Professional membership (e.g., CIEEM) or working towards chartership
  • Experience mentoring or leading small teams
  • Strong commercial awareness and business acumen

We value integrity, quality, collaboration, and forward thinking, and we’re committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive.
