The Opportunity:
Shutterstock is seeking a Software Development Manager to lead the engineering team behind PremiumBeat, our flagship music licensing platform for creators and professionals.
As Software Development Manager, you’ll lead the engineering team responsible for delivering innovative product experiences that drive customer acquisition, streamline purchasing, and optimize pricing strategies.
This is a critical leadership position at the heart of PremiumBeat’s evolution. You’ll work cross-functionally to turn product ideas into reality, whether that’s refining our checkout flow, introducing new pricing models, or building tools that help users find the perfect track faster. You’ll guide a team of talented engineers through fast-paced delivery cycles, all while upholding technical excellence, product vision, and business impact.
This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who’s passionate about building impactful products, growing high-performing teams, and shaping the future of creative commerce.
Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a team of software engineers, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment that values creativity, ownership, and results.
- Drive the successful delivery of product initiatives tied to business growth, including acquisition funnel improvements, pricing experiments, and conversion rate optimization.
- Partner closely with Product Management, Design, and Analytics to define and execute on a roadmap aligned with customer and business goals.
- Mentor and grow engineers through regular coaching, feedback, and development opportunities.
- Continuously evolve team processes and workflows to improve velocity, code quality, and cross-functional alignment.
- Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, and data-driven decision-making across the team.
- Champion engineering excellence, encouraging best practices around testing, reliability, and maintainability.
- Remove obstacles and provide the clarity and structure your team needs to succeed across the full product lifecycle.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience managing high-performing engineering teams.
- Proven experience delivering scalable and user-focused web applications in complex environments.
- Strong technical background with a deep understanding of architecture, performance, and best practices in modern web development.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams through product discovery, iteration, and delivery in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Strong alignment with agile principles and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Effective communicator who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced, and results-oriented environment.
- Passionate about building products that have real business impact, particularly across acquisition, pricing, and transactional experiences.
