The Opportunity

The Supervising Engineer - Civils will be required to assist the NEC4 ECC Project Supervisor in overseeing and carrying out all construction assurance activities for the Scheme on which they have been deployed, ensuring that works carried out by the Design and Build Contractor are done so efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with established standards, specifications, regulatory requirements and requirements under the various contracts. This may include inspecting the workmanship, quality and safety of work at a Site Level.

The Supervising Engineer - Civils will assist the NEC4 ECC Project Supervisor and the Design and Technical Services Lead in establishing and leading the Engineering Assurance sub-functional area for the particular Scheme on which they have been deployed, providing strategic direction and overseeing the management of a high-performance, integrated team of clerks of works. The role holder will lead the Engineering Assurance sub-functional area and will be required to develop and undertake detailed financial and resource planning for the Scheme on which they have been deployed and oversee the day-to-day management of the activities of Client Partner (CP) staff deployed within the sub-functional area, ensuring they are carrying out their relevant tasks efficiently and effectively to ensure the successful delivery of Core Bus Corridor Infrastructure Works (CBCIW).

The Supervising Engineer - Civils will also act as a point of contact between the Site Level and CBCIW Core Level and any other relevant NTA stakeholders and will be required to actively encourage knowledge transfer between CP staff within the Engineering Assurance Functional Area and NTA staff. The role holder will also be responsible for coordinating all relevant reporting to the PMO and any additional reporting required in line with defined governance arrangements. In addition, the role holder will assume responsibility for the performance of CP personnel deployed within the sub-functional area and will embed a focus on continuous improvement and best practice throughout the delivery of the Scheme.

The specific tasks and areas of responsibility the Supervising Engineer - Civils may be required to oversee and provide support for are primarily included in Section 6.H.1 of Appendix 1 to the Client Partner Scope of Services.


As a Supervising Engineer at Arup, you will:

  • Required to have 5+ years’ construction management / supervision experience with a proven track record of carrying out construction management / supervision activities across the project lifecycle through to completion in high value road and / or infrastructure projects or projects of a similar scale and complexity to CBCIW.
  • Experience in the supervision of construction of bridge and reinforced concrete structures
  • Further demonstrated experience and knowledge in the following is desirable:
    • Delivering engineering solutions and results in dynamic urban environments
    • Ensuring works are compliant with the Works Requirements and Road Specifications
    • Site supervision of contract works, including earthworks, drainage, bridge and building construction, preferably within a live urban environment
    • Irish Building Regulations and Irish Planning Process
    • CDM and Health and Safety and their application in the workplace
    • Ecological and environmental aspects related to construction
    • Documenting best practice construction project management policies and standards
    • Delivering construction/asset delivery projects to time and within allocated budget
    • Interpreting drawings and specifications necessary for completion of construction works
    • An extensive knowledge of civil and structural engineering works

Qualifications:

  • Required to have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or equivalent).
  • Safepass accreditation is desirable.
  • Chartered / Incorporated / Associate Engineer of a relevant professional body is desirable.
  • Member of the Institute of Clerk of Works in Ireland is desirable.
