Title of Post: Associate Professor B Pharmaceutical Formulation

JOB SYNOPSIS
The Department of Chemical Sciences is seeking to recruit an Associate Professor B (Specific Purpose, 5-Year Term) in Pharmaceutical Formulation to support its teaching and research mission. The Department has a strong research profile and hosts three national research centres. Our research leadership is reflected in a proven record of securing national and international funding, including the coordination of several Horizon Europe projects, MSCA doctoral networks, and European Research Council (ERC) grants, as well as funding from Research Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, and other industrial and public bodies. These successes are accompanied by the Department’s highly competitive publication and citation records, which underpin its position as a national and international leader, particularly in the areas of battery technology, pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical processing, and environmental technology. The Department has close to 400 students and delivers four undergraduate programmes, several postgraduate programmes, and supervises approximately 110 PhD students. It is also a leader in internationalisation, as evidenced by the high proportion of international faculty members and the significant number of international students enrolled. Applicants should have experience in conducting high-quality research, as demonstrated by published articles in international ISI-ranked journals. Evidence of high- impact publications, together with an awareness of the potential societal and industrial impact of research outputs, is expected. The successful candidate will be required to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels on accredited chemical and biochemical programmes, supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research, write grant proposals, conduct excellent independent research, and undertake administrative responsibilities associated with an academic position. We are seeking a researcher with a strong academic profile who will contribute to our vibrant and cohesive Department, which is recognised nationally and internationally for excellence in research, teaching, and societal impact. Candidates for this post must hold a primary degree in chemistry or a related area, together with a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences, materials chemistry, or medicinal chemistry. Consideration will be given to candidates whose research aligns with one or more of the Bernal Institute research themes (www.bernalinstitute.com), namely Biomaterials, Process Engineering, Molecular/Nanomaterials, and Composite Materials. Candidates with a strong track record in other areas of chemistry, particularly in formulation, drug delivery, and materials, are also encouraged to apply. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate competency in modelling, be it process, data, or molecular modelling, as applied to formulation, drug delivery, and materials research. Ideally, candidates will have appropriate post-doctoral experience, whether in academia or industry, and a proven publication record commensurate with the post. In addition, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to teach effectively and a strong commitment to teaching excellence. The successful candidate will be expected to complement and advance the Department’s research objectives, to develop an independent research programme supported by external funding, and to supervise both undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and students.
