Business Advisory Trainee – Balbriggan
Role Definition
As a Trainee at AAB, you will be learning your profession from people with a great deal of experience and expertise in business, finance and technology. You will generally use your technical skills to prepare information and present this to colleagues for quality review before it is shared with your clients.

THE ROLE
Business Advisory Trainee – Balbriggan
Role Definition
As a Trainee at AAB, you will be learning your profession from people with a great deal of experience and expertise in business, finance and technology. You will generally use your technical skills to prepare information and present this to colleagues for quality review before it is shared with your clients.
Main Tasks of the Role
- Form, develop and maintain good working relationships with clients, partners and colleagues
- Participate in the work of your department under supervision and guidance
- Understand procedures and processes associated with the work of your department and the wider firm
- Respond positively to all requests for assistance and offer your help to the team
- Take responsibility for own technical learning and development of skills
- Apply knowledge acquired through your own studies to work, being enthusiastic about training and development
- Communicate to team anything which is not understood, manage delivery expectations and act on advice given
- If applicable, undertake professional training and/or work towards a professional qualification, achieving first time passes in any tests or exams
- Understand ethics and the impact on our role as trusted business advisors
- Identify where other AAB services could help our clients and discuss with colleagues
- Contribute to our marketing campaigns, including social media
- Understand our financial discipline regarding costs and our operational efficiency regarding time
Technical Tasks
- Deal with, under supervision, basic accounting concepts and accounts preparation work
- Draft accounts from client records
- Clear review points raised on work performed, in a timely manner, with guidance and referring to internal training notes
- Undertake accounts processing work
- Note queries for discussion with supervising staff and clients
- Manage own workload and highlight timescale and timing issues to supervising staff, review and maintain Retain
- Review own line in planning chart for the next 3 weeks and identify the senior/manager in charge of job and the senior team members assigned to job
- Pro-active communication with your line manger to discuss jobs and confirm if:
- clients’ records have been requested
- records have been received
- paperless file has been set up
- pre job briefing and assistance required thereon
- Update the senior members of the team on status of job on a regular basis
- Develop an understanding of accounting services software, including Caseware, Sage, Access, Xero and CCH
- Understand the financial billing process and prepare fees
Requirements to Perform Successfully in this Role
Required
- Higher Grade/A Level or equivalent
- Highers ABBB / Nat 5’s - A/B in English and Maths (for school leaver training programmes)
- Degree level 2:1 minimum classification (for graduate training programmes)
Preferred
- Prior study of Accounting, Finance or Business Management
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience of working in a similar role
- Experience of working to tight deadlines
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent organisational skills
- Strong communication skills – both written and oral
- Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Attention to detail
- Problem solving skills

- Good team player with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels
- Ability to work on own initiative and to tight deadlines
- Self-motivated, with an ability to develop ideas into practice
