Job Title: Cleaner & Waste Management Operative
Location: Cental Engineering, Carlow

Overview
Cental Engineering is seeking a dedicated and proactive Cleaner / Waste Management Operative to support our fast-paced modular build facility. This role is critical to maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work environment and ensuring all waste streams – including hazardous materials such as paint by-products – are managed responsibly in compliance with environmental standards.
This is not a traditional cleaning job. We are looking for someone who takes pride in making a visible difference, is passionate about environmental standards, and wants to be a driving force in shaping and developing our site-wide waste management system.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning & Housekeeping
- Maintain cleanliness of the production floor, workstations, walkways, welfare areas, and storage zones to support a safe and efficient workplace.
- Perform routine cleaning of factory equipment and surfaces to minimise build-up of debris, dust, and contamination.
- Monitor high-traffic and high-risk zones for cleanliness and act quickly when spills or hazards occur.
Waste Management
- Support the development and rollout of a structured factory waste management system.
- Monitor and manage all waste streams daily, including general, recyclable, hazardous, and paint-related waste.
- Ensure proper segregation, storage, and labelling of waste in line with regulatory and company procedures.
- Coordinate with external contractors for scheduled waste collections and maintain documentation.
Compliance & Safety
- Handle hazardous materials (e.g., paint waste) in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and company SOPs.
- Assist with EHS inspections, audits, and continuous improvement efforts related to cleanliness and waste compliance.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including PPE use and safe equipment handling.
Cross-Functional Support
- Work closely with Production, Maintenance, and EHS teams to maintain environmental and safety standards.
- Support project-based improvements related to waste reduction and cleaner factory initiatives.
- Assist with cleaning preparation before audits, customer visits, or major project phases.
Person Profile
Essential
- Proven ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and order in a busy industrial environment.
- Genuine passion for environmental best practice, health & safety, and workplace presentation.
- Strong sense of personal responsibility and pride in delivering a visible impact.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritise tasks in a dynamic setting.
- Good communication and teamwork skills – ability to work across departments.
Desirable
- Experience in industrial or manufacturing cleaning roles.
- Knowledge of waste segregation and environmental practices (training can be provided).
- Forklift license – desirable but not essential.
- Understanding of 5S or Lean systems is a plus.
