The Hire Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day hire operations, this includes yard operations. The successful candidate must have a strong, constant focus on ensuring high quality product is available for all pending unconfirmed hires.
What you will do:
YARD ORGANISATION
- Ensure yard housekeeping is meticulously maintained, all machinery should be parked in the appropriate repair or ready for hire area and be neatly oriented.
- Ensure off-hired product is dropped off in the appropriate area – ensure areas in front of bay doors are kept free from obstruction.
- Ensure the yard team wear appropriate PPE including a harness and lanyard when operating MEWPS.
- Follow up on HSQE audits as per timescales noted.
- Ensure all COSHH items are correctly labelled, stored and MDS are accessible as required.
- Ensure product quality is assured through regular condition audits and customer feedback.
WORKSHOP/BREAKDOWN CONTROL
- Responsible for expediting prioritised repair tasks and making alterations to work schedules when priorities change.
- Monitor and control physical stock levels of plant and equipment awaiting repair, prioritise older and quick turnaround repair jobs, ensure graveyard areas are kept as clear and as organised as possible.
- Assist the purchasing team by providing advance information on parts required, work with the purchasing team in developing proactive and flexible supply chain support for parts and breakdown support.
- Ensure workshops are effectively organised and supervised with a particular emphasis on safety, adequate tools and work areas should be ensured and maintained.
- Ensure breakdowns are correctly logged and actioned as per KPIs.
- Execute authorised exchanges are executed with urgency as per our service level agreement.
STORES MANAGEMENT
- Process part requests for open repairs and breakdowns as per procedure.
- Ensure parts are kept in an organised and safe fashion.
- Ensure incoming goods are checked off and delivery notes processed as per procedure.
- Ensure stock levels of standard parts and consumables are kept at optimum levels.
PROCEDURE MANAGEMENT
- Process the ‘Unconfirmed Hire Report’ at set periods daily, highlight items requiring inspection, repair and charging.
- Ensure yard off-hire information is communicated to the counter promptly each morning as per KPI.
- Ensure procedures for specialist equipment loading and unloading are carried out effectively and staff are trained as necessary.
- Ensure electric machines are put on charge in advance of imminent hire.
- Manage the Stock Transfer process for transfers in and out of the Cork depot.
PRODUCTIVITY
- Monitor levels of inspections pending at each wash bay balancing labour as required to clear bottlenecks.
- Constantly monitor inspection numbers at each wash bay and challenge poor performance.
- Review inspection lists daily ensuring older dates are targeted as per KPI.
- Ensure clear expectations for overtime outputs have been communicated, measured, and authorised, ensure all overtime is necessary and productive.
STAFFING
- Manage the induction and probation period for new starts.
- Monitor training needs periodically and ensure essential training requirements are actioned with urgency.
- Manage holiday arrangements to ensure no negative impact on customer service.
- Lead by example regarding customer service in terms of attitude and action.
- Ensure all accidents and near misses are correctly recorded and investigated. On completion of investigations ensure corrective actions are closed out.
What you will need:
Work Experience
- A minimum of 5 years’ recent experience in a similar role.
- Experience of Supervising a team of more than 5 Operatives.
Education/Training
- Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent).
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent (desirable).
Skills/Abilities
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
- Able to build relationships across all levels.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Able to challenge confidently and calmly.
- Ability to devise and prioritise tasks on own initiative.
