Role Summary:

 

Reporting to the Radiology Services Manager (RSM3), Deputy Radiography Services Managers (RSM1s) or designate, the Mammography Clinical Specialist Radiographer will perform a pivotal role in service planning, co-ordinating, managing activity, and allocated resources within the mammography department located within the Beaumont Breast Centre (BBC).

 

The post holder will be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team and will lead and supervise radiographic and other staff in the BBC resulting in the delivery of an efficient, effective, and quality mammography service.

 

The Mammography Clinical Specialist Radiographer will be responsible for the provision of radiation protection within the environment, reducing the risks of any adverse radiation effects in compliance with local policies, national legislation, and international regulations. They will be primarily responsible for ensuring that imaging in the mammography department is performed to a high standard of technical quality in a caring and efficient manner and in line with established guidelines and procedures.

 

This role encompasses quality assurance, staff development and effective communication while providing professional and clinical leadership. This position requires the ability to lead, guide and supervise staff in a rapidly changing environment, and the willingness to undertake additional duties as may be assigned from time to time. This will be achieved in conjunction with the RSM3 and RSMIs and the Radiology Directorate Management Team.

 

The Mammography Clinical Specialist Radiographer is expected to assist the RSM3/RSM1s in the delivery of efficient and effective radiography service both within the BBC and the radiology department and must function integrally within the Radiology team and have proficiency in other modalities in order to participate in 24/7 services.

 

Responsibilities

 Principal Duties:

 

Reporting to the RSM3 and his/her deputy the position of Clinical Specialist Radiographer requires an ability to lead, guide and supervise Radiographic staff in the assigned area and to successfully manage service delivery on a day to day basis.  Ability to manage in a rapidly changing environment and willingness to undertake such additional duties as may be assigned from time to time is essential.

 

To carry out the duties appropriate to a Radiographer in relation to the assigned area and other areas within the Radiology Department, including the provision of an on-call service if required.

 

To attend at such time and such places as may be fixed by the Chief Executive or designated officer and to remain in attendance there so long as his/her services are required.

 

To carry out his/her duties under the supervision of the RSM3 and his/her deputy or such other person designated for that purpose by the Chief Executive or designated officer.

Qualifications

Mandatory:

  • Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.
  • (a) Candidates for appointment must:

    (i) Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Radiography Division of the

    Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU.

    AND

    (ii) Have not less than 6 years full time (or an aggregate of 6 years full time) post qualification clinical experience.

    AND

    (iii) Possess a recognised postgraduate course in Radiology as recognised by the IIRRT and have no less than 4 years practical clinical experience working in a speciality. Practical clinical experience will include time assigned to work in the relevant specialist area but needs

    to comply with the following breakdown:

    Pre commencement of a postgraduate course (maximum of 1 year* allowed);

    Time spent completing the post graduate course (maximum of 1 year** allowed);

    A minimum of 2 years experience* following completion of a postgraduate course.

    *A minimum of 12 weeks assigned to work in the relevant specialised area will be required for each relevant year to be counted.

    **The research component of a postgraduate programme will count towards the post course time once the Radiographer has successfully completed the taught components of the programme.

    AND

    (iv) Requisite Knowledge & Ability

    Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability,

    management, leadership and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

    AND

    (v) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Radiography Division of the Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.

     

  • Annual registration
  • (i) On appointment practitioners must maintain annual registration on the relevant division

    of the Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU.

    AND

    (ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
