Backend Engineer 12-Month FTC

Overview

We have an exciting Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) opportunity for a Backend Engineer to join our TimeArc team as we expand our core product offering and work across major client projects.

The TimeArc team is developing major new features using Python and Django and needs an engineer to support backend development. The ideal candidate will be an experienced developer who can demonstrate strong expertise in modern Python programming and a deep understanding of the Python ecosystem and tooling.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with technical team leads to design the overall application architecture.
• Develop and implement custom components to integrate existing systems with the TimeArc suite of products.
• Drive backend component development.
• Contribute to product architecture and design.
• Participate in peer code reviews.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong understanding of the Python programming language, its ecosystem, and idioms.
• 3+ years of professional experience using a Python-based MVC framework—preferably Django.
• Experience developing APIs using REST, GraphQL, or RPC.
• Solid working knowledge of SQL-based RDBMS (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Familiarity with modern Python features such as type hinting, async, and data classes.
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and experience working in cross-functional teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience with XML processing and transformation.
• Familiarity with document management or document workflow systems, or experience with SaaS products.
• Exposure to DevOps workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and AWS.
• Working knowledge of a modern JavaScript framework (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js).
