Position: Buyer
This position will play a key role within the purchasing team. It will suit an experienced buyer from a manufacturing background. They will have proven experience working within a seasonal industry which has a high product mix and long lead times. The successful candidate will possess excellent analytical skills with a proven ability to problem solve and make decisions. He/she will have an excellent understanding of MRP and ERP systems and will have responsibility to ensure the plant meets customer delivery expectations within the purchasing function.
Key Activities will include:
- Participating in all aspects of the material supply chain in terms of planning, pricing, inventory, delivery, quality, service, performance, troubleshooting.
- Developing and maintaining supplier service level agreements.
- Maintain system integrity with accurate purchase orders, delivery dates, quantities, vendor lead-times, safety stock, and order polices.
- Responsibility for material planning, purchasing & inbound/outbound freight co-ordination.
- Responsibility for total landed cost for raw materials.
- Managing suppliers and the sourcing of new and/or alternative sources for raw materials.
- Aid with month-end closure of accounts payable.
- Actively participating in the budgeting process.
- Responsibility for reviewing the backlog frequently and working closely with the production team to help balance the backlog.
- Oversees maintenance of optimum inventory levels to ensure timely delivery of customer requirements while maintaining minimal carrying and transportation costs.
- Reviews and analyses aged inventory reports and creates action plans for reducing these inventories.
- Proactively communicate with customer service team on planning issues that may affect finished goods supply levels.
- Assist production / engineering teams to plan production around supply issues as they arise.
- Works closely with the warehousing team on scheduling deliveries to ensure no space constraints exist within the warehouse.
- Ensures to adopt lean supply concepts and tools such as Kanban and JIT.

Qualifications
ESSENTIAL
- A Third level qualification in business, supply chain or other related discipline is essential.
- Lean qualification.
DESIREABLE
- AIPICS qualification or equivalent.
Experience
ESSENTIAL
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a purchasing function within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in ERP systems, ideally JDE and iPlanner.
- Material purchasing & inbound freight co-ordination.
- Ability to manage strict material inventory targets.
- Advanced Excel standard.
DESIREABLE
- Experience working with 3PL and clearing agents.
- Lean Supply Concepts and tools.
- JDE.

- Understanding tariff and classification codes.
