COPE Galway has been providing essential social services in Galway for 60 years. We respond to the needs of people experiencing homelessness, women and children subjected to domestic abuse, and we support older people towards healthy, independent ageing. Domestic Abuse Service
COPE Galway Domestic Abuse Service supports and empowers women, children and young people who are subjected to domestic abuse. Based in Modh Eile House, we offer a range of services including a 24/7 confidential helpline, safe refuge accommodation, outreach services throughout Galway, and court accompaniment. We also provide domestic abuse training and awareness programmes.
Our dedicated children and young peoples service, Solas Óg, provides one-to-one and group therapeutic supports for children and young people up to 25 years, and delivers healthy relationship workshops in schools and youth groups in Galway.
We listen, believe and support women, children and young people on their journey toward a life free from domestic abuse.
Key Areas
Under the direction of the Solas Óg Manager / Team Leader, you will:
Schools work:
- Deliver our secondary school programme specifically for the junior cycle in relation to Healthy and Unhealthy relationships in line with the current SPHE curriculum, the Junior Cycle Learning Objectives and the objectives of this Service
- Deliver the programme to other youth services and groups
- Liaise with schools in relation to promoting the programme and booking workshops
- Support the Development officer to develop resources to support the programme such as leaflets and other promotional materials
- Support the Development Officer to monitor and evaluate development of the programme in schools
Support to Teachers:
- Support the Development Officer to develop CPD programmes for teachers both at primary and secondary level in respect of domestic abuse, in line with best practice in continuous professional development for teachers
- Promote these programmes to secure their accessibility by and acceptability to teachers throughout the Galway area
- Facilitate the delivery of these programmes in Galway city and county
- Report on the progress in this area
Health and Safety

- Ensure that Health and Safety procedures are understood by workers and residents, and are fully complied with.
- Liaise as appropriate in respect of the Health and Safety maintenance requirements of the service, meeting agreed response targets.
- Carry out Health and Safety duties specifically allocated to you.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who will work with the Development Officer and team to develop the following areas of work
Facilitate our school programme for junior cycle students in relation to Healthy and Unhealthy relationships.
This role would suit someone with an educational or youth work background, with experience in the development of learner materials and resources for individual and group learning.
We are looking for someone who is creative in thought and design and who can work both alone and within a team and who is committed to our mission.
Essential Requirements
Education
- Level Eight in relevant discipline youth work, social care, education or community work
Experience
- Experience of working with young people in a group setting
- Experience of working in the education sector, specifically in the writing and development of learner materials and resources
Skills and Abilities
- An excellent and creative communicator
- Skilled in writing
- To be both flexible and adaptable in approach
- Ability to communicate effectively, with colleagues, students, volunteers, and other professional agencies
- An ability to act on ones own initiative and make decisions, take into account the views and opinions of colleagues, clients and other service providers
- Good organization skill and diligence in ones approach to work, to follow through with tasks
- An ability to maintain and foster a positive outlook and approach
- A full clean driving license
- Excellent ICT skill
