Purpose of the Role
The EHS & HR Officer is responsible for supporting and coordinating Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) initiatives while assisting in HR-related tasks, ensuring regulatory compliance and fostering a safe, compliant, and engaging workplace. This dual-function role plays a key part in maintaining and enhancing the site’s safety culture, environmental performance, and employee wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Compliance
- Act as the site’s subject matter expert for EH&S topics including health, safety, environmental protection, equipment/process safety, and property security.
- Maintain and continuously improve the EH&S Management System in line with Irish regulations (e.g. Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act) and ISO standards such as ISO 14001.
- Lead site safety and environmental initiatives, policies, and audits, promoting a proactive culture of risk prevention and compliance.
- Ensure timely maintenance of all safety documentation, records, and regulatory submissions including permits and licenses.
- Conduct and document risk assessments, safety inspections, job hazard analyses and ensure corrective actions are implemented and tracked.
- Oversee wellbeing initiatives and support mental and physical health promotion across the site.
- Deliver EHS induction training to all new hires, visitors, and contractors and maintain training compliance records.
- Coordinate accident/incident investigations, including root cause analysis and return-to-work plans in collaboration with HR.
Environmental Sustainability and Climate Action
- Monitor compliance with national environmental legislation and support waste management and sustainability targets.
- Assist in the implementation of the organisation’s Climate Action Plan and sustainability goals, identifying carbon reduction opportunities and resource efficiency improvements.
- Conduct environmental audits and inspections and manage environmental reporting.
Waste Management
- Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal processes and track performance against reduction targets.
- Continuously improve waste segregation and recycling practices on site.
Documentation, Systems and Reporting
- Maintain the EHS database and ensure all incidents, audits and inspections are accurately recorded.
- Prepare timely internal reports for management and respond to external regulatory requirements.
- Ensure Q-Pulse system output and updates are reviewed and communicated site wide as required.
- Update the Time & Attendance System (Timepoint) for any absence records, anomalies in daily hours and supporting supervisors and managers as relevant.
- Support cross-functional EHS meetings, delivering updates and contributing to team development and engagement.
Human Resources Support
- Assist with HR policy implementation and support HR operations where required.
- Contribute to employee engagement initiatives and compliance with employment legislation.
- Act as a point of contact for health and safety concerns raised by employees and collaborate on solutions with line managers.
- Support HR with onboarding and performance-related training coordination.
Candidate Profile
Minimum Requirements
- Degree in Environmental Science, Safety Management, Human Resources or a related discipline.
- 2 years’ experience in an EHS or HR support role within a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
- Familiarity with Irish employment and safety legislation.
- Experience with sustainability and climate action initiatives is an advantage.
- Certifications such as ISO 14001/45001 Lead Auditor are desirable.

- High attention to detail and capable of managing multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Confident in delivering training and promoting EHS initiatives.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety software systems.
- Proactive and flexible approach with a strong focus on continuous improvement.
