Job Title: Engagement Officer
Based: Ballymount, Dublin 12
Reporting to: Communications & Engagement Manager
Purpose: This role reports to the Communications & Engagement Officer. The role involves the delivery of the company’s strategy and planning for external community engagement and communication. The main aim of the role is to work closely with the communities we serve through outreach, activities, and campaigns with our community leaders, groups, municipalities, accessibility organisations, charities, and partnerships. Additionally, the role will collaborate with internal departments such as Operations, Risk, and People and Culture. This role is an ambassador role for Go-Ahead Ireland and public transport, delivering on the company’s mission and values.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Deliver the company’s strategy for external community engagement and communication, ensuring that the company’s mission and values, as set out by The Go-Ahead Group, are at the core of all activities.
- Develop and execute internal and external engagement activities while continuously seeking ways to enhance internal practices and external stakeholder relations.
- Organise and oversee community events and initiatives, ensuring they align with the company’s strategic goals.
- Foster and maintain existing relationships with key stakeholders and assist the Communications and Engagement Manager in building and nurturing new relationships within our community.
- Support the Communications and Engagement Manager in maintaining and developing Go-Ahead Ireland’s User Disability Group, gaining insights and feedback on suggested improvements for customers.
- Develop and lead projects throughout the year, involving colleagues from across the business, championing the importance of public transport and addressing the impact of anti-social behaviour on the community and the Go-Ahead Ireland network.
- Engage with the community on anticipated changes related to Go-Ahead Ireland’s services in line with BusConnects and any other expansions. This includes, but not limited to, communicating with community leaders, schools, universities, and age-friendly alliances about upcoming changes and gathering their concerns for understanding and response.
- Organise and host community groups and/or schools at Go-Ahead Ireland premises for tours of our facilities, leading informative talks and discussions in collaboration with other community leaders such as An Garda Síochána.
- Assist the Communications and Engagement Manager in delivering projects in conjunction with Dublin GAA, raising the Go-Ahead Ireland brand.
- Reach out to community groups to support them with community projects (such as Fun Days) where appropriate and feasible, and coordinate involvement.
- Assist in the development of marketing materials and campaigns to promote community engagement and external Go-Ahead Ireland activities, championing the importance of public transport throughout.
- Documentation of all events – reports for archiving, photography for use on digital media.
- Attending of off-site meetings, sometimes held in the evening.
- Complete risk assessments for community events, including transport and attendance of events, with training provided.
Responsibility in managing, participating, and complying with the Integrated Management System (IMS).
Knowledge and Skills
Essential:
- Experience in community engagement and outreach projects.
- Comfortably addressing large crowds.
- Experience in creating and delivering events with a hands-on approach.
- Experience working closely with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Great attention to detail.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
- Ability to work to deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with initiative, as well as part of a team, with a proactive and positive attitude.
Desirable:
- Educated to 3rd level or equivalent
- Knowledge of public transport industry
- Videography/Photography skills for capturing community events etc.
- Knowledge of Canva or other illustration software for internal and external graphics (advertising community engagement events for Go-Ahead Ireland social media).
- A valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle will be required to travel to community events and meetings.
General Safety Responsibilities:

- Ensure that you and any guests to any company premises understand emergency and evacuation arrangements.
- Ensure your working environment is maintained in a safe and tidy condition. To act proactively in identifying and any unsafe practices or safety risks in the organisation and reporting these through the appropriate channels.
