Meet the team
RTÉ’s Technology division is responsible for managing all technology for the organisation and is establishing a data engineering team that will work with colleagues in Technology and provide support to teams of data analysts embedded in business areas such as in Commercial and Audience Insights. The data engineering team will provide data management support across the whole organisation.
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, we are looking for a Head of Data Engineering to be responsible for developing and leading the data engineering function and to be a key driver for improving our maturity in data governance and data management as RTÉ moves to the next phase of its digital transformation.

About the role:
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of a data engineering team providing data engineering support across the organisation.
- Establish and lead clear, organisation-wide data governance policies and structures, ensuring the security, privacy, accuracy and availability of data.
- Partner with relevant stakeholders across the organisation to develop and implement a data strategy that supports the digital transformation of RTÉ as set out in the new strategy.
- Establish and maintain suitable data warehousing solutions that can scale and handle increasingly complex data analytics requirements.
- Lead the building of efficient data pipelines, populating complex data sets and ensuring high quality, accurate and up-to-date data is available for embedded analytics teams to use.
- Work with product teams and software development teams to ensure data analytics requirements are adequately represented in the software development lifecycle.
- A bachelor's degree or master’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience in the data engineering field with 1-3 years of that in a leadership role.
- Experience with the implementation of data governance in a complex organisation.
- Experience with complex, high volume, multi-dimensional data, as well as data models based on unstructured and structured data sets.
- Experience with the design and implementation of large and complex data warehouses and data pipelines.
- Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent influencing and stakeholder management skills, and ability to effectively build and maintain relationships.
