Head of Department - RUK&I Civil Structures

Any Ramboll UK & Ireland office

As our new Head of Department for Civil Structures, you will be part of the Ramboll Transport Team with responsibility for leading and managing the Civil Structures teams across the UK & Ireland. This role requires an experienced leader with a strong background in civil engineering, excellent management skills, and a strategic mindset. The individual will oversee the growth and development of the team, ensuring the successful delivery of projects, championing innovation, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Leadership & Team Management:
    • Lead and develop high-performing Civil Structures teams, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture.
    • Oversee recruitment, training, and mentoring of civil engineers to ensure professional growth and expertise.
  • Business Development & Growth Strategy:
    • Grow and develop Civil Structures teams by identifying new business opportunities and expanding market share.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and long-term partnerships.
  • Project Delivery Leadership:
    • Oversee the successful delivery of projects, ensuring they meet client requirements, budgets, and timelines.
    • Manage resources effectively, allocating staff and materials for project completion.
  • Technical Excellence:
    • Provide technical guidance and support to the team to maintain best practices and standards.
    • Champion innovation and incorporate cutting-edge technologies and methodologies in project delivery.
  • Financial & Commercial Oversight:
    • Manage departmental budgets and ensure financial targets are met.
    • Drive profitability through efficient resource allocation and cost management.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional accreditation (e.g., Chartered Engineer) is required.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role within an engineering consultancy, with a focus on structural projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous experience and industry connections, including client recognition, in Transport and Energy sectors in UK, Ireland and overseas would be highly advantageous.
