Job Title: Health and Safety Officer
Location: Kingsbridge Private Hospital Sligo
Reports to: Estates & Facilities Manager
Accountable to: General Manager
Salary: €35,650
Hours of work: 37.5 per week
Kingsbridge Private Hospital Sligo is currently seeking to recruit a Trainee Graduate Health and Safety Officer within the estates & facilities department. The successful candidate will be based in Sligo but may be required to travel to other Company locations as and when required.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Trainee graduate Health and Safety Officer to join our team. This is a wonderful opportunity for a newly graduated H & Scandidate to gain valuable experience in a hospital setting, which is part of a large healthcare group. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, promoting a safe working environment, and implementing safety policies and procedures within our Sligo Hospital, with oversite from the team at a group level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify and mitigate risks
- Ability to identify hazards, assess risks, and recommend appropriate solutions
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation and standards
- Provide training and support to employees on health and safety practices
- Investigate accidents and incidents to determine causes and implement preventive measures
- Prepare and present reports on health and safety performance
- Collaborate with management to promote a culture of safety within the organisation.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, and training
- Attend meetings where appropriate
- Work with the wider H & S team within the group to gain further experience and provide administration duties where required
- Manage health and safety policies on the company electronic platform
- Deliver regular educational sessions to staff pertaining to health and safety
- Assist in the development of site-specific project and project specific health and safety procedures

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- A relevant third-level qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (Level 6 or above on the QQI framework).
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices to ensure compliance with the ROI Health and Safety Act 2005
- IOSH and/or NEBOSH certificate.
Desirable
- Ability in conducting safety training sessions
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
Experience
Desirable
- Apply the theory of the recently gained health and safety qualification in a healthcare setting to align with Health & Safety Legislation within the Republic of Ireland
Essential
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team within the remit of Health & Safety
Special Knowledge and Skills

- Proficiency in IT, particularly in using Excel and Word
