The Rehoming Coordinator plays a vital role in the responsible rehoming of the rescued animals in our care. Our objective is to match each animal to a suitable forever home—one that aligns with our policies and procedures—where they will be loved and cared for the rest of their days.
This is a public-facing role, and we’re looking for someone who can represent the values of our organisation with professionalism, compassion, and sound judgment.
Essential Skills and Requirements:
- Excellent animal handling experience.
- A basic level of education, including a high standard of written and spoken English.
- A keen interest in animal welfare.
- Good organisational and time-management skills, with a strong attention to detail.
- Strong data entry skills, as the role involves maintaining accurate records and compiling statistics for internal reports and external stakeholders.
- Comfortable working independently, as well as part of a team.
- Emotional resilience and the ability to cope with potentially distressing and situations.
- A full clean driving licence.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Experience in a customer or client facing role.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
- Animal behaviour evaluation and assessment skills.
- An interest in photography and videography.
Who We Are and What We Do:
Set on 88 acres in rural Longford, the ISPCA National Animal Centre (NAC) provides care for equines, dogs, cats and other small animals. Our team pride themselves on the care given to these animals which are rescued from across the country.
Due to the nature of our work, we also have a 24 hour a day Employee Assistance Programme available to all employees. This service is confidential and is completely free for our employees.
Some of the main duties and responsibilities of this role would include:
- Greeting and meeting with potential animal adopters at the ISPCA National Animal Centre.
- Providing excellent customer service and maintaining an extensive up-to-date knowledge of the animals available for rehoming.
- Communicating effectively and confidently with adopters, the public, staff, volunteers and the inspectorate.
- Handling sensitive or emotional conversations with empathy and professionalism, ensuring clarity and compassion throughout the rehoming process.
- Reviewing and processing animal adoption applications in line with ISPCA policies and procedures.
- Awareness and application of relevant legislation and ISPCA rehoming policies, including those relating to restricted breeds, when assessing applications and facilitating adoptions.
- Coordinating home checks, including liaising with volunteers, other centres and departments, and personally carrying out home checks when required.
- Liaising with the animal care team, the centre supervisor and the centre manager to compile accurate and engaging rehoming information.
- Photographing and videoing animals who are ready for adoption, as well as updating the rehoming section of the website.
- Using internal IT systems proficiently, including email, databases, and spreadsheets, to manage applications, update records and ensure accurate and efficient data handling and record keeping.
- Collaborating with the communications team, particularly on rehoming appeals and following up on “Happy Tails”.
- Preparing adoption reports monthly, or as otherwise requested.
- Travelling, including to other centres/sites, or to carry out home checks.
- Carrying out any other reasonable duty as may be required, including assistance for the helpline, front desk or animal care if necessary.
